I've reached a point where I honestly don't revel in it when national media praise BB/Patriots and I don't get pissed off when they are the object of a hit piece. I just don't care anymore and, frankly, that's liberating.

The cost is criticism by folks like Florio. Insecure coaches won't take that risk. Thank goodness we have a coach who really doesn't care about such popularity contests.
Insecure coaches and coaches with insecure owners, I think you mean. This is where Mr. Kraft plays a huge role. He was secure enough not to turn the coach's position into an ego powered merry-go-round like too many owners do.
He also didn't interfere to protect Bledsoe when BB was giving the ball to Brady like some owners might have when a guy seen as you're primary seat-filler is cooling his heels in favor of apparently nobody. If Kraft had been a busybody owner the story might have ended quite differently.
Kraft's hands off approach allowed genius to flourish in his franchise and I don't think he always gets the credit he deserves for that. It's certainly not the case in all franchises that Belichick, Brady or both would have been free to maximize their potential.
The article says that it was a low-risk gamble worth taking but ultimately didn't pay off, as many gambles don't. He literally says Belichick has earned the benefit of the doubt a hundred times over. It's funny to watch you guys get bent out of shape over clickbait headlines.
