Flores is a good backup plan if Vrabel somehow gets poached by the Bears (or now the Raiders), and if Ben Johnson isn't their cup of tea. I'd probably check out Aaron Glenn at the same time though if I ended up in that position. That's a handsome man.

I could see it if Vrabel wasn’t available. Vrabel is the better choice. The question is is Johnson better than either one?

I think Vrabel is too risky as he's still related to Bill even though he never coached under him. His defenses were pretty mediocre in Tennessee and they wouldn't even be a playoff team with Henry at RB. Unless there aren't any other options, I think Vrabel would be another lazy hire.

Johnson may be a dud, but I'd lean towards him being a good coach as Goff isn't exactly an elite QB who can take over games. He's always been a guy that needs to follow the script. McDaniels, O'Brien, Gase, McCoy, for example were propped up by Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. All turned out to be offensive frauds, but at least O'Brien was able to hang around in Houston.

I just want the Patriots to do a complete coaching search. more than just a perfunctory search because they already decided on one guy. The more the better.

I could be wrong Pape, but I think that Vrabel is already a done deal. I'm not saying that's who I want or don't want. I just have a suspicion that it's what's going to happen (and already has happened behind the scenes).

I don’t want him anywhere near Maye. Very good DC but the coach/Qb relationship it’s important, especially in today’s NFL. Even if Flores wanted Herbert, he should have tried to make the best out of Tua.

The biggest problem with Bill’s coaching tree is they all try to be like Bill but without Bill’s history. Players aren’t gonna buy into the ******* head coach approach if you don’t have the record to back it up.
