Re: Flash: Garcia on flight to Boston

will his character change? I'm all for it.

Re: Flash: Garcia on flight to Boston

That would stink... b/c some team would claim him immediately.

Am I missing something here? Did he do something earth-shattering on Sunday? Is he the next Champ Bailey?

Re: Flash: Garcia on flight to Boston

I think his point was simply that the number of years in the contract doesn't represent the degree of commitment of the team. Unless there's a significant bonus that would accelerate to the current year, you can terminate a multi-year contract as easily as any other. The Pats routinely add years to cheap deals just in case they strike gold, as with Brandon McGowan. And they routinely terminate those deals when they don't strike gold, as with Terdell Sands.

Right. The length of the contract the Pats gave Arrington is utterly meaningless, just like the length of the contracts they gave to Sands, Simmons, and a bunch of players they've signed off their PS in the past. In Arrington's case, it's even more meaningless, because even if he did sign a 1-year contract, he'd be a UDFA after the season and the Pats could just re-sign him at the minimum without any other teams in the mix.

No matter how you slice it, the length of the contract they gave to Arrington has absolutely no bearing on their assessment of his value and has no effect whatsoever on other teams pursuing him. In short, it's meaningless.

Re: Flash: Garcia on flight to Boston

my point?................what does Sands and simmons have to do with Kyle Arrington?

You're suggesting that BB cut a guy,who we just signed off the PS(for 2 years!,no less),partially to keep him away from certain teams(per Mike Reiss),.......isn't THAT what youy're suggesting?

Not putting someone on IR or cutting someone like Alexander or Lockett, who are older and have bigger contracts, but Arrington?..............ridiculous.My advice is the same..............Watch last Sunday's game, then,if Garcia is signed, watch NEXT sunday's game.................Arrington will be on the 53.......again.

I hate to break it to you, but Lockett is a rookie and went undrafted in 2009. Arrington went undrafted in 2008. He's a few months older than Lockett. They're both 23. They both are making minimum base salary ($310,000) for a player with no credited seasons. Therefore, when you wrote "cutting someone like Alexander or Lockett ,who are older and have bigger contracts" you were incorrect. As far as Alexander goes, the fact that they just cut him to bump his current season salary above the veteran minimum exemption and make it guaranteed with the hopes of re-signing him speaks volumes as to how the team values him.

Arrington had (drum roll) two tackles on Sunday. Please. The fact that you are already spewing over his abilities is laughable.

As far as other teams signing Arrington, don't take it as some assessment of Arrington's worth. Teams have been signing players off other practice squads frequently over the past few weeks as their reserves have gotten injured. Some team that had a cornerback go down with an injury (i.e. the Colts) was probably looking for another body and had a good scouting report on Arrington. The Pats had their own injury (illness) at CB and needed him around. Don't make anything more out of it.

I would start a thread about it

He must mean that they ran out of footballs for Seward.

FWIW, Seward is on the Jaguars.

FWIW, Seward is on the Jaguars.

He's been in two games and has zero stats. More proof the Jags don't know what they're doing.

Re: Flash: Garcia on flight to Boston

fine with me

I wanted him on the 53-man roster to start the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

And most likely at 9 weeks ago your suggestion was chided, as Garcia would of course be far behind in learning the Offense.

The same people who made such a big deal about him not knowing as much of the system as Hoyer will now note what a great insurance policy he represents with 8 fewer weeks than he could have had.

Not that I'm faulting Belichick for forgoing a veteran QB... it's just worth noting that Belichick undersrtands that it can be worthwhile to have a competent veteran QB on the team even if he can only run a very limited offense.

:singing:
You and mrs mod can spin this all you like..........I don't want to "cut" anybody..............especially Arrington...........my assertion was that cutting Arrington is knee-jerk and ridiculous. Also, his contract DOES have something to do with this..............Whatever his value is in the future,BB is trying to keep him from signing with another team.........drum roll.............NOW!...............If you can't see this then I suggest you watch sunday's game,again..................reread Mike Reiss...........peruse the Colt's defensive back situation and then you can figure out that BB has a myriad of options here.

Barring all that,I just can't help you to understand how the patriots make midseason roster changes.:singing:

Re: Flash: Garcia on flight to Boston

I'm not buying this. Wasn't Peppers "on a flight to Boston" during the offseason. This just makes no sense. If true, I don't see any method to this madness.

Re: Flash: Garcia on flight to Boston

I'd say Arrington, if Wilhite is healthy.
I'd put my money on Lockett. They just signed Arrington to a 2-year deal. Lockett has been a good special teamer, though.

Re: Flash: Garcia on flight to Boston

PFT reporting this rumor as bogus.. Lets move on

Re: Flash: Garcia on flight to Boston

I just thought i'd throw this idea out there. Maybe, he's in town to look at Seymours new house. Its for sale, isnt it? Can't a former QB do a little house hunting in NE?

With that said, I would be ok with JG being on the team. I guess Vinny wasnt available

As opposed to reporting rumors that turn out to be bogus? Now I'm really confused.

no he did not...... He made a nice hit 1 time...

Again, the length of Arrington's contract is irrelevant. They will typically do that with PS players they promote. Maurice Price got a 2-year contract when he was promoted last year and lasted two weeks on the roster.

OK, so why did you say that a team would "claim him immediately?"

other teams have banged up CB's..... like the Colts for instance... Arrington does add a body....... just sayin.
