the question is value....
milton has value as a cheap backup, sure......but if you're playing your backup long term, your season is likely lost regardless.....this isn't a superbowl ready roster that hoyer can step into......so how much do we need a good young backup? his highest value to us, now that Maye has shown he's the man, is that he's cheap.......if Maye went down long term, you want a back up that isn't going to ****** the development of other young players......TBH there's plenty of cheap vets that can do that, too
he also has value to other teams.......is that value at it's highest right now, while he has multiple years on his rookie deal, after showing one good start, with a lousy QB draft on the horizon.......or is his value going to be higher after another preseason of work and showcase? because barring a catastrophic maye injury, talking robert edwards level, milton is really not going to see the field in NE over the course of his contract, not in a meaningful way.....so if you are going to move him at some point, you want maximum return........might that be now, with a weak class? who knows.....i'd say his value would potentially be higher after camp, getting him some preaseason starts and looks.....
but this all about what has more value.......a cheap rookie contract is all well and good, but when is his trade value at its highest? once you judge that, that is when you move him.........patriots have their young stud QB
