Re: First Writer Turns on Manning

No, I'm not a journalist, I don't even play one on TV, like Ron Borges.
The reason I was sure that you didn't read the article is that this article does not "absolutely suck," as you proclaim for all media. The writer makes a solid subjective and objective case for what many NFL fans have thought the last few weeks about Manning. Perspective, as in - Manning's been great and he'll be great again, won't help his team win the SB this year, only better play, now, will do so. What the heck is so whacked out about that?

And before you go writing off media as a whole, take note that at his last Senate hearing, no one less than Gen. Peter Pace made specific mention of the extreme importance of a free press, perfect or not. Sometimes I wonder what you complete media haters want - nothing? Only Limbaugh and Hannity filtered news? Whether due to liberal bias, simple human frailty, sloppy, shoddy work, etc., the media are flawed but also far from worthless. Unless, of course, you'd rather live in China.

Okay, I'll give you that the article does not suck. However, if you want to parse things, I never said it sucked. I said the media did. It's a general statement, and one I find true. I was responding to a different post than the original linked article as well.

(However, I still roll my eyes when these writers start in on things like body language.)

See, what I want is precisely the opposite of Limbaugh/Hannity news. Sports media today is almost all these talking heads taking sides and screaming at one another. No facts at all.

Disagree.

Brown, Givens, Branch, Gaffney, ANY TE you have had >>Moorehead, Crap Thorpe, Fletch.

Ne won a bunch of games by narrow margins (IIRC) in those SB years, correct? Season isn't over, and we're 5-2 with a "depleted" WR corp. Brady ever win a game at home by 3 points versus a .500 team in those years??

I'm talking about Caldwell, Brown, Gaffney from last season.

You're a moron.

Brown, Givens, Branch, Gaffney, ANY TE may be better than Moorehead, Thorpe and Fletch, but they are most definitely not better than Wayne, Clark, Addai and the guys you mention. Clark is a better receiving TE than any the Pats have had (with maybe the exception of Watson this year). Manning's group of offensive skill position players this year are still better than anything Brady had in one single season (except, of course, this year). That's the point here, not that if you go back in time and cherry pick Patriot players from each year you can build a group of offensive weapons that are better than the '07 Colts.

Okay, you have the following players at your disposal:

Wayne, Clark, Thorpe, Moorehead, Fletcher, Givens, Branch, Watson, Caldwell and Gaffney.

You've got to pick three of them to put in your offense, which do you pick? Wayne, Clark and Branch is the obvious answer.

So, what do we learn from this? We learn that the best receiver Brady's had prior to this year would be a number 2 target in a Marvin Harrison-less Colts offense. And also tells us that if Manning keeps struggling we have to universally give Brady the edge in the whole quarterback controversy. And don't even get started with offensive lines.

You're right about that, way too much shouting and one up-men-ship. Yow, our discussion led to understanding, even agreement. This is how our country is supposed to work. Yahoo!

OT: Manning Needs to be a Leader Again

It appears to me Manning hasn't been able to adjust to his subpar receivers, yet many writers have just been making tons of excuses for him.

Here's one writer who seems to finally have it right about him:

Manning is always ready with an excuse I remember two years ago when he threw his offensive line directly under the train. He's always alluding to "injuries" but then stating "we can't use that as an excuse" rather than I can't use that as an excuse. If he had to throw to the receivers Brady had the past 5 years nobody would know who the hell Peyton Manning is. He cannot hold Tom Brady's jock and that's a fact jack.
