If we aren't planning to add a vet RB on the roster, I hope they keep him but he is done.

It would be interesting to see how much of last year was because of post-op recovery.

He can play on my team anytime.

He should have dressed in IN.

Troy should have dressed in AZ.

Have to think he's done at this point.

I love the guy, but he's got nothing left.

I really wish that I didn't agree with you, but I'm afraid that I kinda do. I love the guy, and wouldn't hate the idea of him making the roster as a gameday inactive until a better RB gets hurt, but I didn't see much of anything from him last season to indicate that he can still contribute in a significant role. Can at least hope that another year of recovery right help him improve over least year, but at his age I'm not counting on it.

If we're going to sign a veteran RB anyway, wouldn't you rather have Faulk? Anyway, I hope they at least give him a shot to make the roster.

I have mentioned in few threads over the last few weeks that I feel he should be bacak as the Vet back this year provided he has even the tiniest of bounce back in his step now well over a year from his injury.

3 simple reasons

1) The torch has been passed to the sophmores and Woody and I feel a FA veteran could potentially stunt their growth. Example lets say we signed a FA of the Caliber of Sammy Morris in 07 this guy would definitely take reps from the younguns even if he was as professional as Sammy seemed to be with Maroney he still would be taking reps. Which leads to the next reason.

2) Faulks role would be different than the above as his primary duties would come as a back up to Woody as thirdown/scatback. Hopefully Vareen shows some skill required for this type role but right now I see it as Woody's to lose and Faulk would be a great back up (again provided he some added bounce back). Secondary role would be as a mentor to the younguns and a minor role would be as the clutch punt returner in sticky spots like inside the 10 but I think at this point I trust Edelman in all situations.

3) Well come on he is K Faulk the dude is and always will be the man in my book.

Hope he'll stay.

As a player or in the organization, doesn't matter.

This team needs Kevin's leadership and experience.
Especially with a young RB package.

I love the guy, but he's got nothing left.

I love them too. It has been an honor to have him as a Patriot for his entire career.

I wouldn't say that he has nothing left but his talents have diminished somewhat to the point where it may be the right time for him to call it a career.

I would hate to see him end his playing days on a different team.

And, BTW, Belichick not dressing him for the super bowl last year was like stabbing a knife into his back. IMO, that was totally uncalled for by Belichick.

That would be like the Sox sitting Ted Williams down for the 1946 World Series.

I know that BB will give him the opportunity to earn a spot on this team, if he indeed has nothing left and there is not a place on the roster he will be treated the way T Brown was to leave on his own terms.

I'd really like him to earn a spot in the staff. We wouldn't waste a roster spot in him and he would still mentor our young RBs.

My worries about Faulk are as a receiver.

I assume his blocking skills remain fine.
I assume his running skills are diminished.

But can he still get open and then hang onto the pass? If so, he can have a role, at least as a reserve.

Everybody is just guessing really, he had a couple of really good seaons under Josh. I would like to think like others here that he wasn't fully recovered after the op last season. The way he is talking I'm thinking he feels he has enough for another season. Lets hope thats true.

As said above he certianly will be given the opportunity here by Belichick.

Move over Mr. Fears.....Kevin is our next RBs coach

It feels like one of the scenarios where former great can't make the decision to retire on his own. Faulk has been an outstanding Patriots player. Unfortunately, I don't see a roster position for him.

Fun Fact: Faulk is the last 20th Century running back left in the NFL with Ricky Williams retirement, and the last pre-Bellichick-Brady era guy left on the Patriots. Anyways, I'd love to see him come back as long as there's a spot for him. Reminds me of when we brought back Troy Brown in '07, nothing left, but still a great guy to have around.

Agreed. This was obvious in the brief action he saw last season.

Just what I saw. Hey, I'd love to be wrong, but he's played in 9 games total the last two years. On the plus side, he should be well-rested.
