ESPN: 11 of 12 footballs under inflated by 2 pounds of air.

Explain what you did please.
This whole mess is killing my Super Bowl Buzz, so I decided to run a roughly scientific experiment. I am risking my Jerrod Mayo-signed Wilson NFL football. I inflated it in my home at 64.5F, testing the pressure, it was roughly 15 psi (don't have an accurate gauge). I placed it in my fridge set at 37F. So, a difference of 27.5 degrees. I know this is stupid, but I wanted to see if there was any noticeable difference in the psi when I retest it. Its been marinating for 40 min and I have to go to work soon, LOL. I am going to try to give it another 20 minutes, but I am going to need an excuse for my boss why I am late for work. I will report my findings in a few...

Gerry Austin was on Mike and Mike this morning. Says all balls were measured prior to game, all balls were measure at half, including the Colts balls.

All twelve of the Pats balls were under inflated, 11 of them almost exact. None of the Colts were deflated.

His conclusion was someone deflated the balls.

He also assumed that the balls would have been inflated to propoer pressure for second half, when the Pats put on the real beatdown.

Again, its not the affect this particular act had on the game, real problem is perception of what else have the Pats done to gain an advantage in this or other games.

It may suck, but that is the real problem...this throws aspersions on the NFL and the intregrity of all the games.

the NFL is a business.....do you really think suspening BB and potentially loosing billions in revenue would be worth it?

How would the NFL lose billions if BB is suspended?

The game is still going to watched. Advertising dollars have already been spent. If anything Goodell is protecting the brand and sending a clear message that this sort of thing will not be tolerated.

I don't want BB suspended, but given Goodells track record I believe its entirely possible.

well then i truly hope Goodell goes down with the ship the next time something big happens and Kraft says **** off

ESPN says that they were all normal & within specs
Just to be clear, the NFL did not say that. Someone says a source told him that. There really is a difference.
And if this is coming from Austin on Mike and Mike, I give it zero credibility. He has no reason to be aware of the circumstances and communicates like an inebriated truck driver, so him saying he knows this or thinks this would be largely in question

None of what he says, makes sense.

If he assumes that the balls had been inflated to proper pressure for the 2nd half, then where did the NFL get its 11 underinflated balls?

There's a lot about this that just doesn't add up, no matter how one spins it. Much ado made out of nothing, IMO.

the greatest twist would be if Brady ended up being the only guilty party in this.

The media would have no idea what to do.

PP2,

Austin says all the balls were measured at start of halftime, Pats balls were all underinflated, Colts balls all fine. As someone else mentioned, this is what he said, but he was not in the room at halftime.

And its like i said earlier...i think Brady is the best QB i have ever seen. But what happens now , if this is proven true...people will go back to all his cold weather/rainy/snowy games and say he had an advantage. Sucks for Brady, sucks for Pats fans.

For the record, I do not want sanctions against Belichek or Brady...if we(Bills) can ever, ever win the division again, i want it beating the Pats at their best..not with an asterisk saying Pats were constrained somehow.

AND BTW, like most Bills fans, we still consider ourselves O for Gilette, that last game just does not count

Rodney said it best yesterday. I DON'T GIVE A DAMN. I'm sick of this topic...and FU GOODELL. Make one damn statement so we can move on.

Could still be due to change in temp. If Pats balls started at 12.5 and Colts at 13.5, then a change of ~1.0 psi for each would result in Pats being below the required min pressure and Colts being within range.

The other possibility is that there was a defective gauge used on the Pats balls before the game. Someone else mentioned that different gauges were used.

SIMPLE SOLUTION:

All NFL game balls stay in the custody of the NFL. No custody whatsoever of game balls should ever lie with the teams.

Why does this half trillion dollar league invite trouble?

They're like the idiot who keeps forgetting to turn off the stove.

Listening to WEEI and the guy they had on said that the best case scenario is that this was all a "wink, wink, stand procedure type of deal with the referees."

He did not say that's what happened. He said that if the balls were checked at halftime, they would have been brought up to standard PSI. He never said that he knows it happened.

Yep, could be any of those. However, the original report does say the 11 balls all 2 PSI below

we gonna start a new thread with every shred of new, breaking, insignificant news?
