Envious of that Seattle Defense.

In seattles last 4 playoff games, they got destroyed in the first half, and almost came back. Let the vikings drive down at the end of the game only to watch them miss a field goal. Blew a 10 point 4th quarter lead in A superbowl. Came back against the packers in the title game only for rodgers to go down the field in a minute and kick a field goal to tie it. Their defense is not what it was in 2013. I ts still very good, but I think it still has something to prove. I think Denvers is better

Revis was non existent in the SB

Why? because the referee got in his way? there seems to be this perception that revis didnt play well against the ravens even though steve smith was invisible for the last 3 quarters

Edit: Put revis in his prime on this defense and I bet you its way better

We had Blount and all of our timeouts with less about 40 seconds left at the one yard line.

Think about how much lack of confidence BB had on his defense to be thinking "drain the clock" at that point.

Yep a show of real confidence in that 3rd a First D.

I don't understand fully why "draining the clock" to give Seattle less time automatically means that there was no confidence in the defense. Those two are not mutually exclusive.

Now if we had lost on a failed 2pt conversion I'd agree with that reasoning. But I'd drain the clock even if I had the best defense in history.

So much negativity here. A few things from an optimistic point of view:

1. We have had so many defenses that led the league in turnovers and sacks during the regular season that sucked in biggest games. I can think of the Jets in 2010, Giants in 2011, Ravens in 2012, Broncos last year, etc. So, to rely on your defense forcing turnovers in the postseason seems like a recipe that will ultimately end in a loss. You are usually going up against the league's best teams and quarterbacks. Also, we've seen so many times where one unit looked terrible all season and then pulled a 180 in the postseason.

2. I think it is clear from the Collins trade that Bill sees this as a project, not a quick fix. Collins was basically the centerpiece of this defense, in terms of his versatility and ability to force turnovers. Let's have some trust in the greatest coach ever and give him some time to put the pieces together. He clearly saw more potential in this group of players.

3. Our injury luck has been great so far this year. Injuries, rather than wins and losses (assuming we are going to get a bye, which looks very likely) is more important. So, losing to Seattle could be much worse; could have lost a key player for the season, and then we would be in really big trouble.

Don't give me that. We don't make it without him.
How? He was awful against the Ravens and didn't do anything noteworthy against the Colts (didn't need him to with a 45-7 win). We won in 2014 because of our offense, period.

Again this team doesn't sniff a ring without revis. Is that hard to grasp? He allowed our defense to do certain things and be creative. Best move belichick has made up until what has happened now with this defense.

He played an important role throughout the year without a truly, single dominant performance. And teams avoided throwing towards him for the most part during the playoffs. Except for the Ravens.

He was as important to the team as Chung, DMac or Hightower.

The defense did suck in two of the three playoff games, but Revis helped them secure the #1 seed during the regular season against a tough schedule. The pass rush was as bad as it is now. The reason that 2014 team played well at times was because of the secondary, and Revis mostly.

Heres the problem. All I kept hearing from posters was only team that can stop the patriots are the patriots themselves with no injuries. Well that is now proven to be false. We played Seattle in great health, at home, coming off the bye. We lost, no excuses. Now we have to turn the page while acknowledging this 16 patriots team was not as good as we think, but still plenty of time left in the season to improve.

I really hope bob kraft opens up his wallet and pays for premium defensive talent this offseason much like elway did. This defense is only as good as its talent level.

We lost by 1 yard in a game where our defense **** the bed and the offense turned over the ball twice. I see it the other way around as in the game showed that even with the glaring weaknesses we have right now we can compete with the best of the best.

Could we close this thread? It makes us sound like losers. I'll bet the seahawks are envious of our 4 rings.

Agreed. The game was competitive. It's not like it was a blowout. Just need to play better on defense. Hope this game motivates the defense.

Hey man, stop with this logical stuff. This is all about overreaction and whining. Don't you know that because the Pats played a bad game on defense and had some miscues on offense and still had a chance to tie it against arguably the NFC's best team that it means there's a question now on if they even can beat the 49ers

Revis was the big difference. They played some man coverage as well.

I am sure that the Jets would trade Revis straight up for Logan Ryan right now if it wasn't for the massive cap hit they would get for getting rid of him this season and the fact the trade deadline passed.

You do understand the lack of emotion has been there for weeks now, right? Big hit, nothing. That rare 3rd down stop, nothing.

That's a far more disturbing event than how they physically performed. You have that lack of emotion or energy and anyone can run up and down the field on you.

2 players cared. Butler and Hightower. That's it. And that's not good enough.

Against one of the three or four best teams in the league. Other than the Cowboys, maybe, who's better than the Seahawks? And the Patriots can play a C game while the Seahawks played an A- and still just need to flip heads twice in a row, basically, to win.

Well we where fortunate to get him when he wasn't over the hill as much. I am surprised he lost it so fast. I have seen some corners play well beyond 30.

Most of the people on here pining for the Seahawks defense are one's that rushed to the giants/bengals game thread because the giants sacked Dalton on 2 consecutive plays last night, talking about how "now that's a pass rush", failing to realize that the giants pass rush has been f**king terrible this season, only had 11 sacks going into last night and 3 of them were from their S. Paid how much to Vernon and Pierre-Paul? and had 11 sacks and that's with sending 6 or more pass rushers 40% of the time.
