Torrey Smith - Dennis Pitta - Edelperson and one more WR to go along with Rice gives them a formidable Offense.

Umm, no it doesn't.

Weird, Ravens aren't a great fit for Edelman. Hope for his sake that he gets a bunch of guaranteed money, because Joe Flacco is not a good QB for him.

Not a lot of teams are a good fit for Edelman. He is a system WR who depends on an accurate QB to get him the ball.

So, basically Peyton Manning, Brees, or Rodgers. Good luck with that.

Andre Robert received 4-years/$16 million from the Redskins, that puts Edelman in line for a serious payday.

If you consider about the same thing a serious payday.

I would sign Sproles, re-sign Blount, and dump Bolden.

He's a third-down guy whose only special teams role would be returner. Who would you dump?

If we can get one of Talib/Verner/Revis and then either Ware/Allen along with Edelman or a replacement I'll be very happy.

That will probably take up 15-20m in cap room.

It's tough to blame Edelman for wanting to test the market.

One has to assume his agent already knows the market (despite the no-tampering period) and that teams are interested in paying more than the Pats.

In fact, if you're an AFC East team with cap space, you'll high ball Edelman just to keep him away from the Pats or eat up the Pats cap space if they feel they need to have him back.

Teams cut and lowball players all the time citing the "it's a business" line - that works in the player's favor sometimes too.

My feeling is that he comes back to the Pats with any offer and if they come close to matching, he stays. (And the good news is, if someone had blown away Edelman he'd already be with another team by now)

That's true, but there are additional good fits for him, I think. The Chiefs would be a good one, for starters. Also the Chargers, potentially, and the Eagles if they want to stack up at WR. He could fit well on the Colts, although if he's out of the Pats' price range he should be out of theirs too. The Falcons could be a pretty good fit, Bucs wouldn't be the worst fit and could use him, maybe Seattle as a Golden Tate replacement.

I'd think all of those would be better fits than Baltimore, at the very least.

Only one QB in the league has less touch on his short passes than Flacco...............take a bow Ryan Mallett. Ozzie must think an Edelperson will magically correct Lurch's 3 yd ground balls. JE is closer to the ground

That's the million dollar question. Seems like the Pats are playing the long game, but I have my doubts that it'll work as well as it did last season (however you feel about the results, most experts agreed at the time that they played the market right and got good value signings). It worked last year because the flat cap meant there wasn't a lot of money to go around. You had a couple of teams with a ton of cap room spending like drunken sailors on day one (Indy, Miami, Cleveland), and after that there just wasn't a lot of money to go around relative to the players available. That's why the Pats were able to get Talib and Edelman on the deals that they did, and it's also why Seattle was able to stockpile pass rushers on prove it deals, etc. In general, it's why so many players took one year deals. They knew that the market was unfavorable, so they signed a deal that would allow them to hit it again ASAP.

With the cap going up this year, it's tough to see that dynamic working in Teams' favor again, to the point that I think the winners in FA might be the teams that had the foresight to lock up their own guys before FA even started and inflated market values were established. Deals that looked like huge overpays just a couple of days ago (Sam Shields) now look like roughly market value. Hoping I'm wrong, though.

LOL @ Florio's moaning and complaining that the Pats are "putting the squeeze on Edelman"...

I'm curious about what kind of offer Edelman is getting on the market, I think that train has left the station and he missed.

Now with Revis money locked up, I don't think we can afford that initial offer. Sorry little dude. You just got Belichick'd.

I never believed that Patriots had to resign him and I do not think he is worth that much in cap space. He certainly is worth more to the Patriots than any other team and that is bad news for the Edelperson.

Yeah, even if he gets the deal he's aiming, he better sweat blood and produce or he's a strong candidate to become a financial liability in 2 years.

I really believe he's a product of Brady and our system, not taking anything from him, he deserves to be paid, but he has no abilities to play in the outside, Welker is the best slot receiver of all times and got 6 million in the open market. I think Edelman shot his own foot not taking that deal, if and only if those numbers were real.
