Edelman offered 3-year deal, he opts to test free agency

I'm starting to think it'll be a surprise if Edelman comes back. I don't blame him for chasing the $$$, if that's what he does.

It looks like the Browns will give him an offer after Hawkins got matched by the Bengals.

I'm hoping that BB is telling him to see what he can get and that he'll match the offer, and making a bet that he won't get the 7M/year. But that's hopeful thinking on my side

I think Edelman won't get 7M/year either but he might get a 5 year deal for 5M or 6M. The Browns seem just like the team to do that. Get a trusty slot receiver for your pending rookie QB.

I don't see JE making a QB good. His chemistry with Brady was a result of his hard work and Brady ' s directions.

Browns are most likely going to start Hoyer at QB.

Edelman, as you know, has played with Hoyer before.

So this is less than a gamble for the Browns, and why I'm more nervous about them than any other suitors.

Almost entirely in practices, though.

In any case, the Browns haven't yet made an offer that has convinced Edelman to sign (and I have to wonder what's going on there if they decided that waiting for the Bengals to make a decision on Hawkins was better than pursuing Edelman straight up).

I just hope he's still in communication with BB

Other dark horse team that could be in the running for Edelman: The Steelers.

Good break for the Patriots in order to keep Edelman looks to be occuring!

Albert Breer ? @AlbertBreer
B/c of the structure of Andrew Hawkins' now-signed offer sheet with the Browns, I'm told the Bengals rethought things, now unlikely to match

I saw Cleveland as the strongest suitor for Julian. If they are taken off the table and Baltimore goes after Steve Smith, then things are looking more possible for a return. Fingers crossed.

[Post edit: d%#*!@t, Robo, you beat me by a minute! )

This is Edelman's one opportunity to sign a contract that sets him up for the rest of his life.

He is the best punt returner in the NFL and just caught 105 passes in one season. Pretty good for a 7th-round draft pick out of Kent State who played quarterback. Good luck and Godspeed, Julian.

Fret not, ladies and gentlemen. If the Patriots could replace Wes Welker's production, they can replace Julian Edelman's.

If Ravens sign Smith and Browns get Hawkins, who does that leave in pursuit of Edelman aside us? Revis deal is only for 7mill, plenty of cash to get this done.

Edelman may have played this wrong. The Browns are out. The Ravens may be out if they get Smith. He may be out of suitors and by the time he goes back to the Pats, the offer may be lower after the Pats have signed Revis and if they sign another player or two.

This is an odd day for you to post what you did.

The prospects for the patriots signing Edelman are probably higher now than at any time in months.

Giants maybe

Maybe even the Broncos? I think Wes is done

Agreed. He (like Welker) completely missed on what their market would be. I would guess the offer would be lower but maybe they could guarantee more money just so JE saves some face and betters the relationship

You may be correct, but I think Edelman is gone from New England. Cleveland may be out of the picture if the rumors are correct, and the Ravens are looking at their options.

Edelman solves two, possibly three needs: fearless slot receiver, exceptional punt returner and emergency QB. The 3-year, $7M guaranteed offer is not daunting (although we don't know the full salary figure (correct?).

Unless the Patriots have promised him the deal is on the table no matter what, or for a specific time period, his financial demands may be dropping in which case he's better off leaving than coming back to a place that wouldn't extend him for what he feels is competitive for his contributions.
