Edelman Injury Seems to Now Be Confirmed

This offense may need to go through an adjustment period in the first couple of weeks. Brady's first read on a lot of plays is Edelman. Whether that's changed with the arrival of Cooks, I can't profess to know. But going by how the passing attack has been run since 2013, Edelman's loss may force the passing attack to have to adjust. Of course, the Patriots have the depth to cover it more this year than in most other years. But don't be surprised if we see slow starts in the first couple of weeks until the offense finds its groove through the air.

tbf and I know it's the ****ty lions but it really didn't seem to miss a beat last night after he went out. Only hiccup was Brady and Hogan on that deep ball which was a miscommunication

after Edelman went out

9 of 12
122 yards
2 TD

the 3 incompletions- the INT, Gronk couldn't bring in a tough-ish catch and Cooks let one slip out as he hit the ground

and now they have essentially 2 weeks before the 1st game. So maybe there will be some slight adjustment pains but wouldn't surprise me if there aren't any given the 2 weeks they have to address it. And last night Mitchell and Burkhead sat out.

The 2nd half of SB51 was your preview of how the Pats will deal without Edelman: more throws to the outside, use the RBs more in the passing game. Now it will be Gronk drawing attention between the hashes rather than JE to keep those outside routes single covered.

The Pats will find a way.

Regards,
Chris
Because Atlanta was taking Edelman away. Now teams will focus on Cooks. Hogan seriously could have a huge year.

Yes, Atlanta took Edelman away, but didn't have to take Gronk away. Also, most of the job in taking Edelman away was handled by Alford with an occasional assist by Jones. Atlanta didn't double him as much as one might think.

I think Hogan does have a huge year. I saw the segment about his workout routine and he's had one heckof a summer. I think he makes a leap.

It was the Lions, preseason, and very vanilla on defense. I hope they won't go through it. I'm just saying don't be surprised if there needs to be an adjustment period when real football begins. We've seen it happen at times in the past with this team when there's been a big injury.

Hogan and burkhead should be available late rounds in fantasy football.

Hell, if it's not a bad tear, if there was one guy I wouldn't be shocked to see recover in time to return in the same year, it would be Edelman.

Breer just comfirmed it is a complete ACL tear. I don't have a link, as I just heard it on 98.5. But they are saying Breer is confirming it at this point. Take it with a grain of salt until some links arrive, I suppose.

Right now, with an ACL, any tear's essentially the same as a complete tear, for professional-level athletes.

That sucks, but we pretty much knew it was coming.

For the team, they are still strong and having it happen this early gives the team time to adapt to not having Edleman in the offense.

But the team is obviously better with Edelman.

Thanks for keeping on top of this @PatsBoy12 ....just terrible news
I don't even know how to describe my feeling today. I'm still excited and I'm sure I'll be amped when the banner drops and the game is about to start in two Thursdays, but I'm sure I'll instantly get sad again when I don't see Jules out there on the initial snap . . . and then none of the snaps thereafter.

This sucks... 2017 NFL season just got tighter and the pats got easier to defend, bigly....luckily this happened on August 25, not November 25....edelman is Brady's consistent 3-5 yard from LOS first down machine, hopefully amendola can step up.... Problem is Gronkowski, Mitchell, Amendola are all injury prone... Let us pray to the Good Lord that these guys are active and healthy all season and esp when it matters mosr

****.

I do wonder how this affects Foster. He's a reserve RB but can absolutely play out of the slot too. Adds depth to both positions. They're stacked at WR still, but if Danny hurts himself again then you're down to Cooks, Hogan and Mitchell at WR pretty much. That's still a really good starting three, but Mitchell is banged up a lot himself so far in his career. They have Gronk too, but his injury history is long also. A guy like Foster would probably do them a lot of good.
