I hate the Jailbirds. But Ed Reed is NOT a dirty player, and I've never seem him intentionally headhunt.
Let's not pretend people wouldn't be pleased to see Patriots DB's playing hard, tough and physical football. It's something the secondary has missed since Meriweather was released.I don't think Reed is a dirty player. He's just old school.
...how far behind can Brandon Spikes be if this is the direction things are going?
The hit on Edelman in the EZ looked intentional.
One hurt, one suspended and one to go...
We won't forget Ravens. Or at least I won't.
Must suck for them to have lost the graces of the refs and the league. This team's defense is one of the dirtiest there is in the NFL. Without being able to get away with things like that, their defense will start looking less spectacular. Hope we see them in the playoffs and I hope, for once, our guys push back.
I'm bookmarking this thread just to see how many opinions do a complete 180 should we sign Reed in the offseason.
$400+k and missing the game is a ridiculous penalty, regardless of the players involved. The players have nobody to blame but themselves, though. They should have dealt with this in the CBA. They were too focused on getting screwed with the money while making sure they had fewer padded practices, though, so good job by them. :bricks:
I can't wish too many bad things to happen to the Ravens, who I hate almost as much as the Jets. So I don't mind seeing Reed suspended. HOWEVER I hate this 3 strikes and your out precedent. Like the Mayo hit, so very often players get flagged on very arbitrary calls. Often an offensive player ducks his head right into a defensive player. If Reed had 3 hits like the Branch penalty, then fine. But I'd bet that the others were more in the gray area.
The Problem is that that now that precedent has been set, anytime a player gets a 3rd helmet hit penalty he is going to HAVE to be suspended....and all those gray area penalties will come into play. Its already affecting play negatively. Did anyone else recall Arrington pulling up up on Luck before making contact, when he could have just run through him in the chest, not long after Mayo was flagged.
I find it hard to figure out what a DB can do with the "defenseless receiver" penalty. The Pats got one of those the other night that I didn't understand. Yes the DB hit him when he was "defenseless", but his alternative was to let him catch the ball, and then wait for him to come down, set his feet and ask permission if it was alright to attempt tackle him.....gently.
I hear you. I was more or less talking about the word "dirty" getting thrown around here. Watch how many opinions completely change should he switch from wearing a Ratbird on his helmt to a Flying Elvis.
That's the other thing that's ironic here. I've never seen Ed Reed as a dirty player over his career. I wouldn't have a bit of problem having him become a Patriot. While players like Cortland Finnegan and Pollard run free, its kind of funny that Ed Reed becomes the poster child for NFL safety vengeance. it makes no senseI hear you. I was more or less talking about the word "dirty" getting thrown around here. Watch how many opinions completely change should he switch from wearing a Ratbird on his helmt to a Flying Elvis.
