Drake Questions

Zappe sent an NFL QB. Milton has the talent, and they should be able to teach him the right mechanics. In terms of accuracy he’s on par with what Josh Allen was entering the pro’s. Not saying he will ever be Josh Allen, only that technique issues can be fixed.

So, we wasted a 6th Round Draft pick then? That seems to be the consensus here by putting Milton on the PS. I'm not saying he's going to amount to anything, but it's too early to dump him on the PS. If they do, we did waste a Draft Pick. We would have been better off taking the best available RB (which is a position of need) or some other player that had upside at a position that could actually make the team.
We may have wasted that pick
Not many 6th rounders make it to the 53. (Brady exception)
If a team poaches him they have to put them on their 53.
In no way is he worthy of a roster spot
Malik got poached late in the season which is understandable.
Don’t have to have him on 53 too long and get a offseason with the player

Yeah, part of this answer is a question: Is anything else working?

I'm going with the most likely case, that this is really a team that in English soccer would be facing relegation this year. They should really relegate and promote teams to the UFL or something. Anyway, my assumption is that we really aren't very good, despite all the talk about whether we're one OT AND one playmaking receiver away from being good, or one OT OR one playmaking receiver away.

I think we have to assume that Mac Jones was symptom as much as cause. There does not seem to be a world beating supporting cast that only needs one or two additions. If we added just onnnnne morrrrre good player at either position, even if that were all we needed, it would be wiped out in this long season by wear and tear.

If there is one thing I've learned from the good years here, it is that a team of 53 playing to their max potential goes a long way toward fixing the "next man up" issue -- that elusive chemistry thing. But you have to start with something.

I see a really good defensive team still struggling to get together the pieces on offense... the talent level might magically come up when a Drake Maye has his legs under him, but let's make sure he's ready--and the team is as ready as this team can be--when we do it.

All the "magic" that would militate for belief in a fast turnaround is gone; we're ordinary and mortal again. It has to be re-found.

If Drake is a guy that can make everybody around him better, the same will pertain after a season of getting pieces in place. I haven't been studying football obsessively this off season, but my feel for it is that the roster isn't there for a potent offense.

Realistically... who's in it because they think right now that we look like a playoff team? Like one that goes in to the playoffs and actually gives our first opponent a hard time? I know, I know, "you play to win the game," or the season, or whatever. And maybe these guys are all fresh and ready to prove themselves, and it's just me... but I just have this strong "let him sit, learn, and really really want the start" feeling.

I don't think we make it, with or without Maye -- the only question is whether sitting him is better or worse for his later development/confidence/etc. The old-school part of me says, he should shrug off any adversity, if he's what he's supposed to be. Another part of me says there's a non-zero chance of serious injury, bad reaction to inevitable adversity, whatever, and there is no payoff (since I think they're looking at a sub-playoff year).

Want to see how he does in mincamp and the preseason games before I make my guess. I can see both sides as you look at Green Bay and see how they handle the QB’s. If he’s mentally not ready, can’t handle failure and the oline is atrocious, obviously they’ve got to consider starting Brissett? If he shoots out the gate like a cannon then maybe they should consider riding the train and grow through the lumps? Way too early to make any kind of assessment at this point.

Maye also gets hard on himself. He had some bad games last season. The one against NC State, the last regular season game, was a real clunker.

I don’t buy into the hype. He’s a first round talent. But not where he was taken. Don’t automatically put him in franchise status. That’s gotta be earned.
Yeah, but we did not have a free choice among all possible iterations of the college qb. bThere were, what?, maybe three reasonable options. I would probably have gone with a different choice, but so what? All the data show that we would, whatever our choice, be left in the same sort of uncertainty we are now. Maye might work out; he might not. That his success is not a certainty does not mean any avoidable error was made in choosing him. I'll root for him to do well, but if he does not, all you can do is shrug over what a ****amamie thing picking a qb is, and pick again.

LOL. There's a pretty good case to be made that "wasting" sixth round picks on unlikely but intriguing possibilities can be a smart way to go. Or not. Welcome to the crapshoot.

What if it is that he cannot read a defense

Joe Milton III has too much talent not to make the 53. Just you watch.

Fan and team favorite. I wouldn’t be shocked if he becomes the long-term answer at QB instead of Maye.

All depends. How does the kid learn. Some QBs can learn on the sideline holding a clip board. Others need to play, make mistakes learn by experience. I don't know how Maye will be.

I would like to see him sit and learn from the sideline for at least half of the season. The fan in me wants to see him play after the 1st Jacoby INT...

Drake is pissed Millie Bobby Brown got married.

Seriously, who's ever hit on one of those?

I have been saying this about Milton
Put him on the PS. If he gets poached which I doubt. See ya later
Look at Cunningham. Everyone was losing it when he got poached. Now he is going to play WR

Disagree with this Busta. Milton is a project with a big upside, and Zappe has no upside. I’m not worried about their record this season, only that we start seeing real progress.
What if it is that he cannot read a defense
then he will have a really tough time turning into an NFL QB. If that is the case then they need to keep looking for a 3rd QB, imo Zappe isn’t the answer.

Could Joe Milton be the next Tayson Hill??
Perhaps a serious bout of the "Foxboro Flu" could keep him sidelined until March of '25 then decisions can be made.

No, no he could not.

I agree with everything but one thing, I think we are one top 5 wr or top 5 tackle from being a good team.

A top flight wr or tackle will accelerate and raise Mayes ceiling.
We almost have to trade for one of Wirfs or Higgins and Aiyuk, and I’m going to say it should be Wirfs.

You can find really good WRs in the draft but top flight tackles dont fall from the sky you know.
someone said Aiyuk looks like mike tomblin in dreads lol

It's like it stuck in our heads as fans to expect INTS from the QB position from the horror show Last season. What I believe is Drake would have to display in camp as it winds down that he's the overwhelming best QB to start the season.

Now AVP knows QBs so I would trust AVPs judgment on if Drake is ready. If he's close like neck and neck with Brissett I believe Drake will start.
