Third String But Playing on Special Teams
Probably not but I wouldn’t be so certain.

I just have a feeling that Smith is going to ball out and be the best WR in this class, silencing the doubters about his size. It wouldn’t shock me if Bill and Co. are floored by his releases and route running and consider him to be a truly “special” player whom they can’t pass up, if he drops to 15 (unlikely).
Bill has consistently passed on great route running WRs in the draft for the prototype size and or speed.

So Smith will not be drafted by Bill. He has never prioritized that type of Wr, when he has targeted one.

If Smith is there at 15, you run the card up to the podium!

First Half of the National Championship Game:
12 receptions on 14 targets, 3 touchdowns, 215 yards in a half!!!! of a championship game.

Edelman SB MVP performance (whole game)
10 receptions, 12 targets, 141 yards, no TDs

He is a dynamic player, made the game winning catch as a freshman to beat Georgia in another National Championship game. In overtime, on a 2 and 26 with Bama down by 3....

I expect smith, pitts, waddle and chase to l be off the board before we pick!

same with all 5 qb’s and parsons.

therefore unless cb horn is available at 15, we need to trade down with the Titans and take either wr Moore of ole miss or wr toney of Florida!

Horn is perfect for our defense and would be a fantastic replacement for Gilmore starting in 2022, but if horn is off the board, a slot receiver that is also a total playmaker is a need and Moore and toney are two great ones that should be available in the 20’s.
If we trade down, Newsome seems right.

He has consistently passed on most WRs in the first two rounds over 20 years, not just undersized elite route runners.

His most successful WR draft pick, and one of his favorite WRs during his NFL coaching career was a small receiver from Louisville with elite route running skills. He didn’t know exactly what he had with Edelman at the time, so I didn’t count him, but if you count Edelman, that makes two undersized, elite route runners with SB MVP trophies.

When has BB had the (potential) opportunity to draft an undersized elite route runner who had one of the greatest college seasons for a WR in NCAA history, playing against elite competition? Some guys are just special and worthy of different treatment in the draft.

We are not drafting a WR is the first round.

We are much more likely to draft one of the following: QB, OT, CB, TE, EDGE, or an ILB.
Why not? We could really use a top option receiver. It’s as significant need, if you truly believe a guy available at 15 is a stud receiver and best player available, take him. That is unless we are simply spooked by our history of drafting receivers and are too scared to do so.

He picked Bethel Johnson over Anquon Boldin, because of speed.

He traded up to the top of the 2nd Rd to draft Chad Jackson over Greg Jennings. Greg Jennings was the best route running Wr that draft.

He drafted Dropson over the best route running Wr, Keenan Allen, in the 2nd Rd.

He took the 6 4" muscle guy over the best route running Wr in AJ Brown ij the first Rd.

And BB would never go on a massive spending spree in free agency....

Every year is different. Every player is different. BB has the ability to learn from his mistakes and perhaps he has indeed decided to be more collaborative this offseason.

I don’t know how you could watch Smith last year, including the epic performance in the final game of his career, and conclude that Belichick would never draft that guy.

Watching Keenan Allen and the way he ran routes and the ability he showed in college to gain YAC, I thought how could Bill pass on this guy?

After watching film on AJ Brown and seeing how he attached zone defense, showing the ability to recognize when to stop and settle in a zone, the way he broke out of routes and attacked all areas of the field. Again I thought, how could Bill pass on this guy.

Back when Allen Robinson, playing at Penn State in BOB offense, being able to run in a similar offense as the pats, looked like someone that Bill couldn't pass up.

Bill also once thought Jon Baldwin was the same as Julio Jones.

Bill is terrible at evaluating Wr talent. He sucks at it.

When it comes to ST players in the draft, bill is an Ace.

Dline, Oline ace.

We. Sucks

smith is an incredible player. People talk too much about his size.

for years smith was also small in the sec, the best college conference in the country,
(Alabama could have beaten the Jets this past year.)

the sec is only the best of the best and smith excelled against the best! Ate their lunch!

smith is an extraordinary talent, if we can not get waddle, smith is a great consolation prize.

Pats have zero chance of going WR TE or QB in the first round. Period. Its going to be a front 7 player. Fits Belichicks MO or a Guard. If its an offensive player we'll know Kraft overruled Bill.

I love it when posters here make a statement that there is a 100% certainty that something is/isn’t going to happen but then give themselves an out in case they were 100% wrong.

Belichick would never, ever do anything unexpected, because every Pats roster is the same and every group of draftable players is the same and he always has the same scouting director and player personnel team and he has never taken an offensive player in the top half of the first round (except for that time when he took fullback at pick 9 when he was HC of the Browns).

And I could totally see Kraft overruling Bill and forcing him to draft an offensive player.

Most likely a surprise pick like every year. I can easily see a CB like Jaycee Horn or edge rusher. If he leaves Devonta Smith or Waddle on the board, then this forum is going to explode lol...

Giving Cam another shrimp target to throw to would be as useful as a knuckle in my johnson.

Either take a QB in the first or take the BPA and grab a QB in the second. We have two OT's and two starting CB's who likely will be gone next year. WR is way down on the list of needs and when has a WR ever led a team to a ring?

For me it’s QB or Micah Parsons
Or trade up a bit if Chase or Waddle Falls.
