Maybe they plan on letting Leonard Williams walk since Oliver seems redundant? Allen to me makes the most sense after Anthony Barr changed his mind.

    They played him as a NT in a 3 man front.. he’s a 3-tech.

I love Oliver. I don't know if he's Aaron Donald but he'll be good.

You've got to look at Oliver's tackles for a loss instead of sacks -- he put up great TFL numbers, which are more predictive of NFL success, anyway.

I think it’s because they evaluate prospects differently than most franchises. As Bruschi talked about recently they look to fill multiple roles, rather than going strictly by position and ranking. And those roles shift and they have to adjust to it on an ongoing basis. That said I can’t see them ignoring their most glaring needs, as there aren’t many answers for them with what is left of free agency and veteran releases. I think they will trade out of #32 and move up on the 2nd day for their guys.

Yup. I like the options in the top half of the second round and would like two shots at those prospects.

That’s how i see it as well. Move out of #32 but try to get 4 prospects out of the top 64.

I think 4 would be tough because you’d probably use 73 to get up from 56. It depends on how far they trade back from 32 and what they get in return. A trade back into the first quarter of the 2nd round probably only nets you a 4th.

I think we can trade back with either San Fran, Oakland or the giants and still get Lawrence or Simmons.

Some draft rumours from Tony Pauline

    • Sounds like the Cardinals owner isn’t sold on Kyler. Thinks they invested in Rosen and it would be a waste to sell him for pennies on the pound.
    • Drew Lock could go top 5 (team trading up to the Jets)
    • Teams are wondering whether Chris Lindstrom could play tackle which might explain the Patriot’s interest considering they’re looking at OTs rather than interior guys.
    • Hakeem Butler is late 2nd/early 3rd

I just have to shake my head at the egos some people have. The Bidwells have owned that team for 87 years and have produced a grand total of 1 NFL championship and 1 Super Bowl appearance, and generally rank dead last on any all-time NFL franchise ranking list. They just brought in new management, yet they don't want to follow their new management's advice, think they know better about NFL talent, and don't understand the concept of a sunk cost. I'm not saying that the Cardinals should draft Murray and trade Rosen; I'm just floored learning about the reasoning here.

I do think they’re facing a potential pr disaster though. They draft Kyler and trade Rosen and Kyler is average and Rosen goes on to be a success elsewhere. Or they don’t take Kyler and Rosen continues on his current trend whilst Kyler is a hit elsewhere. Neither scenario reflects well on them. Really they have to take Kyler and hope he hits and if he doesn’t, Bidwell gets to sack everyone involved. That’s my guess as to what will happen. As you say, they hired Kingsbury knowing they had the first overall and should follow through on it.

For the Bidwells, it has always been about the pennies.

I don’t see us doing that, but moving back from 32 to the second round and up from 73 wouldn’t be too hard to do.

We could keep 32 and still have 4 in the first 64. However, a move down from 32 would give us the pick to use to move up from 73.

    32
    56
    64
    a move from 73

Wow, that's surprising and fascinating. He does have the arm length and the lateral mobility, and he's a great fit for the Patriots' scheme at one position or another -- one of the safest picks in the draft, IMO.

If he can play swing OT and be an elite guard I wouldn't mind the pick. I would hate it for purely a guard at 32 and we STILL need swing OT, DL and receivers.

Drop down from #32 to mid 2nd, then use 3rd round picks to move up from #73 to the mid 40’s.

Example: Washington passes on a QB with their 1st round pick but then Daniel Jones slips to the end of the 1st round. Washington then packages # 46 (440) and # 76 (210) -total 650 points to the Patriots for #32 ( (590) #134 (38.5) and #205 (9) total 637.5. A slight difference in total value points but one that’s easily made up if Washington wants their QB.

That gives the Patriots the following picks in the first 3 rounds:

    #46

    #56

    #64

    #73

    #76

    #97

    #101

Then the Patriots use #73 (225) and # 76 (210) total value 435 points to trade back up into the mid 40’s , where the point value is mid 400’s, e.g.. Carolina at (430) for #47.

    This would give the Patriots

    #46

    #47

    #56

    #64

    # 97

    #101

The Patriots end up with 4 2nd’s and 2 3rds.

Imo the sweet spot in this draft is the 2nd round and they could address 4 serious needs with the 4 2nd round picks.

This is obviously just an example of how they could go about this, but hopefully it makes sense.
