Don't worry for Alge. The Pats will probably keep three TEs and Alge will be coaching up the two rookies.

100% correct Rob....did anyone read what Mayock wrote.....

"
Mike Mayock, NFL Network
The Patriots just took their second TE of the draft. Their second-round pick, Rob Gronkowski, is an excellent in-line blocker and a talented pass receiver. Aaron Hernandez is one of the most physically gifted H-Backs in the draft. He's a move guy that will cause mismatch problems in the middle of the field. I love these picks.

trade up and pick sapp or dwyer.

does anyone else think the Pats made their picks .2 seconds after the Jets selected to let them know that no you didn't just trade up & steal the player we wanted?

Absolutely

I was watching the live coverage on NFL.com and as soon as you heard "The New England Patriots are on the clock", my Twitter refreshed with a new message which I looked at and it was the official twitter page saying we were taking Hernandez.

Does the suddenly stocked TE receiving corps make another WR less likely? Any thoughts?

I don't see any WRs left who can make the team.

But I'm sure there are practice squad guys available.

Hernandez will probably play a Dallas Clark like role in the team. He won't be used as a tight end in the conventional sense. Solid pick.

He's a good player and it gives us someone to get down the seam like you said with Clark, but I thought at that point OLB still needed to be addressed.

surley oakland is on the phone for thomas right now.

As someone who's been hoping for months that we'd trade Adalius Thomas for a draft pick, I have to succumb to rationality and say THERE IS NO WAY THAT'S HAPPENING. His $$$ is too big. Best we can hope for is that we trade him for another unwanted player with a bloated contract - and even that isn't happening.

He'll be cut, we'll get nothing. Oh well.

12 of 31 picks in the mid 3rd to mid 4th round were WRs.

An incredible run of picks at one position.

Many people saw it coming and predicted it. And it went as planne3d.

Now there's no one left.

12 gone.

AH got all of the BIG catches too- he was the go-to guy on 3rd and 5 or more

Blari White? Scott Long? Both of them could make the team over Aiken, Stanbeck and Jenkins.

FWIW, Peter King:

"Five weeks ago, Pats had 0 NFL tight ends. Today, they have Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Alge Crumpler. Nice remaking of needy position."

It really is impressive, they went from nothing to seemingly stacked. Though EVERYBODY knows the Pats don't draft for need, right?

I agree. Sapp's knee scares me to death though. That being said, I'd still take a flyer on Selvie in the fifth.

This draft's depth is absolutely ridiculous. Some players going on the fourth round would probably be high second rounders in some other years.

We still have room on the roster for a young DE, OLB, RB, P and QB.

At least.

QB - clearly space for a third
RB - need another third-down back
OG - Competition for Connolly's spot
OC - back-up to Koppen

DE - huge need
OLB - huge need

P - Aussie rules?

NEED is part of the VALUE equation they use. That's never been denied.

It's comical and almost scary - ESPN now spending the last 10 minutes talking up the Pats' draft, after hammering BB and Co after the first round.

Kinda like this board, actually

If they think that tate is coming back, there is no need for a WR.

I think we're at 6 guys, Holt, Welker, Edelman, Moss, Patten, Price.

I don't know if a kid like Long could displace Patten for this year.

Yes, although anything goes in rounds 6 and 7. (Still hoping for Scott Long)

Pats have 5 now.. though Hernandez is more of an undersized TE/H-back than a true TE.

Not thrilled with the pick. Rather have Al Woods or Arthur Jones.

The Pats can maneuver back into the round of they see a pass rusher they like. I like Sapp myself but there's nothing wrong with Woods or Jones.
