That is not a flattering picture of Peyton... "most cerrebral QB", with a picture that makes the guy look just completely mentally drained and doesn't comprehend what's going on... It's like a "wtf is going" look.

Plus the photoshopping on it is horrible. Looks like someone at SI took a shytty picture than just learned how to use the Dodge tool and went crazy. He looks pasted over that background.

Here's a better Peyton photo...

That's how I would envision him looking after a night of heavy Natty Ice consumption.

Seriously, I Can't Urge Respecting Seyton Enough...

Most cereberal QB? A) Their offense is pretty simple and the majority of his barking at the line of scrimmage is nonsense B) It's hard to look at that goober, or any of the goober Mannings, without thinking of GOB [from Arrested Development] pointing at hsi head & saying "there's nothing on the inside!!"

You're kidding, right?

Silly picture aside, I have no problem with the labeling of Peyton as the league's "most cerebral QB." That, combined with accuracy, is the essence of his success. Brady may be second to him on those measures, but gets the nod on leadership.

They're both pretty darned amazing. We are so lucky to get to watch this series year after year as hometown fans.

No, I remain unconvinced of Peyton's football intellect (I'm convinced he's a moron in real-life, but that's aside the point). As Synovia said above, he runs - what we're led to believe - is a very simple offense, at least compared to the Patriots.

There once was a time when Peyton was regarded as the best QB physically in the NFL, but a guy who was easy to confuse and easy to mix-up, a guy who Belichick could terrorize b/c Manning lacked the football IQ to keep up. Since then, Manning has played smarter ball during one post-season, and won one Super Bowl b/c of it. Winning that one Super Bowl shed that reputation. For some.

I just think the aura of Peyton as this football savant is ironic, when 5 years ago or so, he was basically considered a Brett Favre type guy - a guy with a great arm, and that's about it. Has he grown that much?

Nope, it's on SI.com. Another interesting thing I came across on SI is that the NFL is banning the "Captian Morgan" stance. The Rum company was going to have a campaign where for every time a player did the stance after a TD, they would donate a certain amount of money to the Grid Iron Great Foundation. So Mr. "No Fun" Goodell decided that the rules should be strict and player not be allowed to "campaign" for a company with TD celebrations, even when the campaign is to donate money to a good Ex-NFL players fund.
Goodall finally gets one right.

Face it, you got called out on your own ignorance.

Bulletin Board material...

Did I? I think you need a refresher course on how Peyton Manning was viewed as a QB in the 2001-2005 seasons. The "Peyton is so smart!" stuff is not something he carried around back when BB had the personnel to get in his head. And this season, BB has the personnel to do it again, so we'll see.

Even on a Pats board, you're the minority. LOL

That's a pretty liberal interpretation. Nobody's accusing anyone of ignorance here, only you.

Don't get me wrong: I have an enormous amount of respect for Peyton Manning as a quarterback. I think he's the 2nd best QB in this generation, and one of the top 10 of all-time. His arm, his accuracy, his work in the pocket are all impeccable.

I do, however, think his football IQ is exaggerated or somewhat smoke & mirrors. Howling stuff at the line of scrimmage, most of which is admittedly just to throw off the defense, does not make one a genius. What Brady does in the Patriots offense that is so dependent upon sight adjustments is far more cerebral. And as I said, it wasn't long ago that Manning's reputation was the EXACT OPPOSITE of what it is today.

If you can provide evidence that the Colts offense is similar - and from what I've seen and read, its just the opposite, the Colts have a simple offense - I will lay credence to what you are saying.

I don't know....I distinctly remember the hype surrounding Manning as some kind of football genius before we played them in the playoffs circa 2003. The cameras would focus on him reviewing photos on the bench in between series and the announcers would talk about how smart he was. I remember it very well because I was worried as hell....at least until we beat them 24-14, I believe it was.

The very next year, the hype surrounding Manning was even greater. No one thought we'd even win our home playoff game.

Perhaps I'm mistaken. I know locally the hype - until the 2006 AFCCG - was Belichick can get in Manning's head. If you asked me to break it down, I'd say Manning's excellence is 85% talent, 15% smarts. Brady would have a higher smarts %.

And I think Belichick still can mess with Manning's head. In 06-08, he didn't have the players to do it.

I believe you are mistaken. The Colts are 4-1 against the Patriots in the last 5 games they have played.

In a game played before the 2006 AFCC, The Colts blew out the Patriots and dropped 40 on them, in NE. And in the one loss in 2007, Manning had a respectable 225 yards with 1td and 1int. I wouldn't call that "getting into his head"

Since that time, the Patriots have not won a Superbowl, and the Colts have while going through NE on the way to it

A ship that sails backwards will never see the sunrise

Right, I said Belichick hasn't had the personnel to get into Manning's head in recent seasons, I am agreeing with that. I'm saying Belichick now has the tools, this season, to disguise some things and confuse Manning.
