Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

Curran is running around again trotting out the usual array of excuses for Mayo's and the Krafts' failures. He's also rattling on about the "football overlord" crap. First of all, if your HC needs some nanny to help him figure out how to do his job, you obviously have the wrong head coach. Second, Curran must be a liberal: they too believe the solution to any problem is to put in place yet another bureaucrat. It does't work in governance, and it doesn't work in football.

What the hell has happened to Curran's sense of journalistic integrity? Shilling for the boss man and his darling boy ain't journalism.
I am guessing Curran is doing his friend Mayo a solid to help him find work as a defensive assistant after he gets fired.

This “football overlord” stuff is pure crap

Perhaps, but is that really his job? I don't think so. If he wants to help his pal, he can do that on his own time. I have been a fan of Tom's work for a long time, but he has become too much of a company man. He was slow to see the need to get rid of Bill; now he's slow to acknowledge it's time for Mayo to go. Shilling for the team and for his pals is a betrayal of his responsibilities as a journalist, to the limited extent he still is one.

He’s definitely mailing it in these days.

I've been trying to make this post for a few days but no time, anyway there was some latest development so i'll add to my opinion, that is, Kraft wants to keep Mayo, but ultimately he can't. There are technical aspects to this mess that won't allow Kraft to keep Mayo because chances are, team will get even worse next season under Jerod.

So I think Mayo will be fired, based on what I'm saying that?

Well, in no order.

There is need for a change and that everyone on earth will agree, if its the HC, or the coordinators, or the GM, whomever, but there will be changes, THATS A FACT. So if you change coordinators, many here have said, who's going to accept work under Mayo??? NO ONE with some reputation will accept that, and a young up and coming positional coach won't risk his career in this situation too. Some of these coaches have only one shot, it's like a bottom 53 roster player who can be out of the league at any time. You're going to keep in the college programs or other NFL programs in a lesser position waiting for a better shot. This is a technical aspect to this problem that can't be overseen by the Krafts. Same problem can be applied to the GM position.

Another technical issue, X and O's. Mayo's got no clue. It's crystal clear. You have, in my opinion, two different sides for a HC to work on, the technical things of football between the lines and the management/administrative side. I believe Mayo can get better in the management side, but when it comes to the game between the lines, adjustments, taking the best of the player, putting players in position to win, signing players mid season that are being badly used in other teams (the Van Noys of life), and so many other technical knowledge of the game, he is so behind to all that, it will take YEARS for him to improve in those areas and running a NFL team as a HC is not a place to learn that on the fly. He screwed up acception this challenge and Kraft screwed up thinking football was simple. That's a mistake and it needs to be corrected. He can't develop players, this team looks like amateur football, even the physical preparation, the gym side, seems subpar. A good point has been made in the last couple days, was our draft really so bad or this coaching staff is so inept they could not extract the mininum value of those players? I believe the draft was bad, but you cant carry this kind of doubt going forward. The question has a point. This team will need to bring at least 50% of new players for next season, and this locker room is already in a bad shape, that's a bad situation for a guy like Mayo to fix. What good free agents are signing to play here???

Now, 2 other things that is kind of tipping my side here on why he's gonna get fired.

1- Kraft's silence. If you are backing your coach, this week was the week to do that, and the last one too. Say it out loud, I'm convinced Jerod is going to be a fine coach, bla bla bla whatever, I believe we are in the right direction, I trust Jerod, HE'S SAFE, HE WILL BE HERE 2025. Just say it, we can disagree, but we make our mind around that.
None of that happened, so at least what I can read is that all cards are on the table and in this case, the time is against Mayo because he is really bad and what could help him is the season ending with an improvement, it didn't happen, the team looks worse every week. So there's no case here for a strong finish for him.

2- Vrabel flerting with this job so openly. In my opinion he's been in contact with Kraft and there's something going on. You don't talk about you wanting someone else's job that openly to the media. You don't talk about someone else's job (unless you are the boss) or finances at all, there's some ethics and non written rules that every worker follows. I know Vrabel seems like a guy who kicks doors and is kinda brutal, but still, if the job was secured for Mayo, he wouldn't been talking. The Jets interview for me it's nothing, he knows he will burry his coaching career there, he's got some reputation and some name in the coaching circle, but it's on thin ice, better get it right this time, he's no Belichick or Reid. So for me this interview process is just him going out there, putting some word on the media, gadging reactions. Maybe Kraft wants to stick it to the Jets again, that would be some story.

There's many other things, many that have been said here many times, but this post is getting long. I'll finish with that, and watch the game. Let's all see what happens.

Quite the opposite in fact! The Jets problem is they kept their awful coaches way too long.

They haven’t had a one year HC for 24 years.

49ers had back to back one year coaches in 2015-2016. 49ers are fine. If like us they based their decision on hope instead of facts they wouldn’t have been to 2 SB in the last 5 years.

I'm interested in what Kraft does tomorrow. If he simply replaces Mayo with Vrabel, this team is being set up for long term failure.
He can’t he needs to interview minority coaches first.
So I think and nope the Patriots host a wide net for their head coach search
I wouldn’t be shocked if the Patriots are the first team to hire their HC.
Vrabel and Johnson may wait and see what the Pats do.
Now if the Pats interview two minority candidates then interview and hire Vrabel workout speaking to Johnson, Moore, Brady, Lafluer, or see if one of Shanny or Mcvay can be shook loose it will be a lazy replacement.

Here's the chances of Mayo getting canned after one year:

Not with Mayo as HC.

No way in hell.

Why is this even a question of course not

Chalk up another L for Bill’s coaching tree. Maybe they ought to look somewhere else.

Hey, I'm glad to be wrong. When I posted the "0.0" thing, I didn't want Mayo to get a Year 2. I was thinking the Krafts would still stick with him.

I'm ecstatic that they didn't.
I honestly didn't think it would happen either but I am glad it did.
