Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

It's a simple proposition: Notwithstanding the Belichicks, Mayo was supposed to have been the wizard behind the scenes on what was a strong defensive corps last couple years. Yet, under his HC leadership, that defense has regressed. So in reality, he was the fraudulent wizard behind the curtain. And, with all apologies to Drake Maye, that's not even taking into account the **** show that's the offense.
I never, EVER heard even the slightest hint that Mayo was doing great things ("wizardry") behind the scenes defensively in his role as assistant coach. To the best of my knowledge, his job was running the meeting room -- in other words, imparting game plans devised by SB and BB.

If anyone has info regarding whatever the hell he might have contributed beyond that, please chime in.
Mayo has never been known as a defensive "wizard" in the slightest. What he was known for was coaching a LB squad that was under constant scrutiny since he's been in NE - especially after the 2021 WC beat down against Buffalo.

This was why I thought this was the most bizarre hire I've seen in the last 20 years.

News flash: players like coach who doesn’t coach them at all and just lets them do and say whatever they want

Good students like teachers who set reasonable, meaningful challenges for them, then help them to meet those challenges. Not exactly rocket science, is it?

They rarely respond well to teachers who scold them for not being tough enough or smart enough to master the material or who waste time badmouthing their other teachers.

I'd be more inclined to credit McCartney and retain him, than to give Van Pelt too much credit in Maye's development.

Maye's is saying today it was Van Pelt.

I’m rooting for the media to crank up the heat as they’ve been doing after each loss.

However, they need to include Wolf because he’s the biggest problem behind the scenes.

I’m sure that I’ll be proven mistaken but it seems to me there have been quite a few interceptions thrown by D Maye that were catchable passes that our “prima donna” WR corps could/should have caught. Maybe worth a call to Fred Biletnikoff to see if he may have some “Stickum” in his basement….

Regardless of what anyone thinks about his performance, this is now Wolf's team. NFL rosters turn over 40-45% per year so there is not as much carryover as in other sports. Many of the BB players were resigned by Wolf so they are now his players. While I agree that it will take a couple of years to really learn their jobs and try not to get frustrated by the growing pains, I am extremely disappointed that leadership continues to blame the previous regime for everything. Until Wolf and Mayo take accountability for the product on the field we should not expect the players to be accountable.

Patriots can’t bring back both Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf | Matt Vautour

Option B is the only answer. Mayo has to go. Mayo is toxic for a locker room and the staff room. Many people said this would happen the day he bombed that press conference of his and he was introduced as the new head coach.
Never... Mayo's staying per Robert Krafty...

No.

Worst case Krafty keeps Mayo for another year or two, Maye finally decided he’s had enough and decides not to re-sign with the Pats and goes to another team.

Kraft is forever known of the destroyer of the first dynasty and the preventer of the second dynasty, all because he wants to get credit for something he never earned.

Today Mayo said they have to go back to the drawing board and try to get better. What the hell did they do during the bye week?

Are there any College coaches who would be enticing

Booked another trip to the Holy Land.

Mayo's been out front taking the heat but the problems run deeper than Mayo. He was handed a crap roster Vince Lombardi couldn't win with and he's not helping himself in pressers. They need to do make a lot of changes next year.
