As bad as Zappe is, we have a better chance of winning with him than we do with Mac.
That's my concern against the Giants. Play Grier or Malik if you have to. Keep Zappe as the back-up.

My interpretation of that situation was that Bill actually wanted to win the game and knew that there was no shot in hell Mac was going to achieve it, so he made the switch. He looked at it and said "we have one drive left to win this and Mac is looking completely inept no matter what we do, I've gotta try something else if we want to actually win this." In reality, he probably should have recognized this with Mac earlier and made the switch before there was only one drive left.

Have you ever seen a football HC on any level, yank his QB right before a winning drive? That kind of move not only breaks the starting QB but puts an enormous amount of pressure on the backup who has to come in cold and pull off one flawless drive.

I agree that the decision should have been made long before that point.

*Ahem* that was not the worst decision I have seen BB make post Brady there have been many too many to list.

I said, "one of." These kind of decisions have been piling up the last 2-3 years. Last year's decision to hire Fat Matty as the OC and keep him in that role the entire season is right at the top of the list.

BB's era of free reign is absolutely over. He's either finished as a HC or his role is greatly reduced.

… When you decide on which quarterback is to start, you stay with that QB and let him go through the trials. If he fails, ok, replace him, but don't start up a QB merry go round where you yank someone at any time. That's the best way to destroy a QB's confidence and prevent him from growing or learning.
Corky has failed, often. If BB were running a QB merry go round Corky would’ve been benched many many more times than he has been.

the only things Corky has been growing and learning is new ways to throw up all over himself.
Have you considered that Belichick replaced him because his growing and learning in New England was over?
Over? Or nonexistent?

I say we ride Mac straight to the #1 pick. I have the utmost faith in his ability to accomplish this for us
I have more faith in his ability to screw up than you seem to have. I’m quite confident that he would manage to accomplish maximum mediocrity and win just enough games to consign us to drafting in No Mans Land.

Zappe hasn't lost as a starter. Until he does, I'm going to assume he will continue winning. Doesn't matter if he sucks in relief. As a starter he just might have that Tebow magic.

Now...Mac. Anyone but Mac for me. I've never really been impressed even during his rookie year. Now I hate the guy. I need to be entertained at the very least and he can't even provide that. Mac doesn't make sense to me. When he is forced to throw deep or truly step into a throw it is actually good. It is the easy stuff he cannot do. Afraid to throw short over the middle, sucks at selling basic screens, and struggles with qb sneaks. Yes the protection is usually poor but Mac has the worst pocket movement of any patriot qb I have ever seen. Significant improvement in pocket movement is the only path I see for Mac to salvage his career. He tries to move like Brady and can't do it. He should mimic Rodger's style instead. Rodgers often sits very deep in the pocket and drift backwards before rolling out.

Ride or die with Mac ****ing Jones. Throwing the f word in there reads a lot differently than tom ****ing brady. Funny… Anyways, keep Mac in there. He’s our best chance to not win. Yes, I’m part of the tank crowd. If the team goes all-in on their young guys and manage to win games, then I’m all for it. Zappe isnt the future. Neither is Grier. Roll Cunningham out there and see what he can do. Maybe he doesnt have it but can get better and show he’s a backup? Idfk but that is what I mean by tanking. Throw **** at the wall and see what you’ve got moving forward. Experiment. Get a lil crazy out there. Make the product fun to watch again.

If Mac is starting the next game, then my preference would be for them to release Zap, have the Giants pick them up and have him start versus Mac. That'd be compelling tv... like Jerry Springer level of entertaining crap.

What in the world have you seen this season that makes you feel this way? Dude can't throw the ball 15 yards accurately

Mac's had some very accurate throws. That 58 air yd bomb to Reagor was perfect. Problem is Jekyll has a really bad side.

Lots of people calling to tank. How do we know they aren't?

This guy would have put Mac on the bench for good no question about it. And given Bill another late round QB success story to add to his legacy.

Instead we draft Zappe ahead of him. Nice going coach.

Don't forget the Purd.

Why are we doing that? We can second guess every draft pick ever. No one in here was high on Howell.

He's also been sacked 47 times. Next closest is Russell Wilson at 33. Mac Jones is 21. Patrick Mahomes 12.

I'd expect Howell to continue to improve though.
