Do any other fans feel cheated by the playoffs and this Giants rematch?

First of all, that is simply an excuse.
But even so, you still fail to understand the defition of best. Its not really debatable, the league sets its entire existence up based upon it, which is that the teams that win when its win or go home are the best.

Thats just sour grapes. The team you think is better lost, so they need an excuse.

You are all over the place now. Why aren't you arguing the Ravens are better and just sucked that day. They had a game winning TD in their hands. They beat 7 teams with winning records and the Patriots beat none. Your logic can easily be applied to say the Pats are phonies and the Ravens clearly are better, they just sucked that day.

So you get to decide that what happened on the field doesn't count because you think they are supposed to play better, so you write it off that they forgot how to play defense? If you are talking about the Packers, here is a newsflash they blow on defense.

Thats a lame excuse.
What about a team that needs a player to have a ball knocked out his hands one millisecond before its a game winning TD, or one that needs a 32 yard FG miss?
Or lets do it your way.
They needed
Ray Rice to forget how to run against thier crappy run D
Lee Evans to forget how to catch a football
Terrell Suggs to forget how to rush the passer
The coach forgetting how to call a TO
The kicker forgetting how to make 98% shot
See, excuses are for losers.

You just described reasons why those other teams couldn't be considered the best.

So let me get this straight. A win is only a win if you say so?
Who was the last team that deserved their win? Clearly not the Patriots.

And why not? Because you can't tell apart GOOD defense versus a good pass?

Or BAD defense versus bad pass?

I guess to you it's one and the same. To me, and most coaches it's not. Yeah the results are similar. Both teams won. The execution is completely freaking different. That's not an excuse. That's the reality of freaking football!

It happens. A good team can execute well and win a football game by playing another good team who also executes well. Likewise a good team can execute bad and win a football team against another good team who executes worse.

And that's exactly what the heck happened. When two great teams play and execute well, somebody still has to win. Likewise, when two teams execute bad, somebody is still going to win.

Doesn't make the Giants the best football team in the NFC.

PS: And yes, the Ravens did lose the game because of their own stupidity at the very end, but not for the other 59 minutes they played, and they certainly didn't lose it on that FG attempt. They lost it when the Patriots defender made a great play. The 49ers and Giants...played like above for the full 60 freaking minutes.

Why does the MVP have to be a QB? Why not just call the award MVQ?

It is terribly irritating that thanks to this thread, we all sound like a bunch of Giants fans.

Thanks, OP.

I had thought about that, and disgusted myself quite a bit with my posting in this thread.

Did he just imply that the 8-8 Broncos were more worthy of facing the 12-4 Steelers and 13-3 Patriots than the 9-7 Giants were of facing the 15-1 Packers and 13-3 49ers?

Yeah well I'm disgusted we have to face another mediocre Giants team again and at least I'm one of the few people with the guts to say it.

Both NFC teams played FAR better defense than both AFC teams.
If I say the Patriots are only in the SB because the Ravens didn't show up, and the Patriots didnt execute but the Ravens were worse, it is just as valid as what you are saying.
My impression is that you recently became a football fan. I would suggest that you listen to what others are saying and maybe you will gain a better understanding.
I can assure you that the wrong approach is to say when the team you think is supposed to win does, then everyone played great and the best team won, but when the team you expected to win didn't then aliens were taking over their bodies or some similar whacky excuse about execution was the cause and that proves the best team didn't win.
I think I'm done with this topic because you seem to think that the result proves your opinion whether it supports it or refutes it.

What is that supposed to mean?
You do realize that mediocre team beat us in our house right?

You are out of your mind. And trust me, I have been a football fan for a looong time and just you saying that tells me you have very little experience. I am well aware of the definition of a sore loser is and I feel very confident in every statement I am making including my next prediction that the Patriots will blow them out, precisely because I have a good understanding of football and don't get swayed by hype, ESPN, and can watch a football game objectively from both sides.

I have said over and over and over. The Giants have an average freaking defense. The Patriots have a much better defense. The Giants have an average sloppy offense. The Patriots have a better offense. The Patriots also have a much better special teams. It's not even close.

You realize just about everyone is picking the Mediocre Giants team to win, and this team in some ways is better than that Mediocre Giants team of 07, and what did they do to an 18-0 team? Time for you to go to bed, you have school in the morning.

Yes and I'm sure Tom and the Pats are very embarrassed about this. So am I. It won't happen again.

Are you a closet Giants fan btw?

I feel cheated by reading your posts.

Who is everyone?

This is like when people go....you know "they" say. Please

Even if that wasn't a complete bold face lie, even if we all pretended everyone is picking the Giants, which they are not, aren't you being a bit hypocritical contradicting yourself in the same sentence?

Obviously if a blind squirrel proved it can find a nut like the Giants did in 07, if the Patriots are the "poor blind squirrels" this time, they're most definitely capable of finding theirs too.

But really stop reading the NY tabloids. It's almost reached the point of delusion. They're making things up man.

Giants fan who comes in peace here. I have nothing but respect for the Pats and what they have accomplished over the last decade. I also appreciate the overwhelming response defending the Giants earned (yes I said earned) their spot in the Superbowl. To the original poster, I'd like to post this point in respect to fairness:

1) In games played against like opponents, including their head to head match-up, the Giants went 7-3 and the Pats went 8-2. I don't see much difference there to be honest.

2) 3 of the 4 of the Giants losses on top of those losses against like opponents were to the 49ers, Saints and Packers (the other was a bad loss to the Seahawks), 3 of the best teams in the NFL. The Pats other loss was to Pitt and they played no other quality teams (I do not count Denver as quality). If you are convinced the Pats would have rolled through a schedule which included the 49ers on the road, Saints on the road and an undefeated Packers team at home, you're a little bit too smug about your team.

3) Of those 4 teams the Giants lost to that were not like opponents, the Giants came back and avenged two of those losses in the playoffs on the road.

4) The Giants beat your team head to head in your house! How is this different than the 49ers or Packers beating the Giants during the regular season?

I think the Giants have earned their trip to the Superbowl and most of your fellow Pats fans and fans around sports (other than salty 49ers fans) agree. If you think it won't be a challenge on Superbowl Sunday, you have a rude awakening in store for you. Should be an incredible Superbowl between two teams playing great football. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Thanks for come on here Guardplay. The overwhelming majority do think the Giants not only earned their spot in the Superbowl but are a very tough matchup. Of course I'm hoping we blow them out for revenge of '07 (it still hurts a little!), but my intelect tells me it's going to be a dog fight down to the final seconds. If anything, I'm not going to be a fan who gives the Giants any posterboard material. They are no roll over.

If you do some research about superbowl gambling online, you'll find public money has gone the Pats way and professional money has gone the Giants way. The spread opened up with the Pats being 3 1/2 point favorites but that moved immediately down to 3 as sharks jumped in. They expect the spread to stay at 3 meaning money is coming in pretty evenly on both ends and likely will the rest of the way. Therefore, you're correct in saying it is a ridiculous notion that everyone is betting the Giants. If everyone were betting the Giants the line would keep moving closer to even.

Players don't need fans to give them poster board material. The media will always create some for both teams either way and at the end of the day on Sunday all we're be hearing from either team if they win is about how they were disrespected and nobody believed in them.

Well first of all let's set things straight. My issue isn't so much that I think the Giants aren't a good team or don't deserve to be in the Super Bowl. Just that the other NFC teams are better and they deserve to be in it more.

The Giants beat a Patriots team who committed 4 turnovers. The Bills can beat the Patriots when the Patriots commit 4 turnovers. When your team commits 4 turnovers, you don't believe you beat yourself? Do you believe it to be common place for an NFL team to commit 4 turnovers in one game?

And I honestly believe this is going to be a rude awakening for the Giants to finally realize why it usually takes a 13-15 win team to play in and win a Super Bowl. This is going to be more of an example of what usually happens when a 13 win team meats a 9 win team. I don't believe in mystique, luck, superstitions. I believe in execution and efficiency. That's what wins regular season games, playoff games as well as Super Bowls. Every once in awhile a team who executed poorly will wake up and beat a team who executed consistently in the regular season when they catch them sleeping. The rest of the times, the norm happens.

I am well aware of the exception to the rule. I know what it feels like when the underdog gets you. It's a bitter taste and it sucks. But the Giants have yet to get a taste of the norm. Eli has yet to taste what it's like to get beaten by the favorite in the Super Bowl.

Fact is when the a team like the Patriots turn over the ball 4 times against the Giants the Giants will beat them by about 4 points.
When the Giants turn over the ball twice against even a team like the Saints, they get demolished 49-24. This offense, is just as good as that, but this defense is even better.

So pray the Patriots turn the ball over 4 times again. That's the only way this game stays close.

Yeah they should send the 2 best teams in the league to the Super Bowl every year. Those teams could be determined by a combination of a coaches poll, a media poll and a computer poll. I can't imagine such a system ever creating any sort of controversy or discontent.

Wait, whuh-huh?

Why do you even bother arguing at all, its clear you know everything. If we were all in a room together you'd be putting your fingers in your ears going lalalalallalala whenever somebody pointed out that every team goes through the same process and this is how it played out. You have made excuses or rationalized anytime someone challenged your view point with a logic reply. So i think this is analogous to the old saying if you think your the only one that's not crazy you probably are....

You do realize the Giants were without Bradshaw AND Nicks in that game, don't you and the Giants STILL beat the Patriots on their homefield? I won't even go into who was playing hurt, because both teams had key guys playing hurt that week. As for the turnovers, the Pats got two turnovers also.

The Giants are a much better team than they were in week 9, and in fairness, the Pats clearly are also. Throw the regular season records out. You could talk all you want about 13 wins with not one coming against a team with a winning record until the playoffs and how much better it is than the Giants 9 wins. Different teams, different time. The Packers were 10-6 last year and the Steelers were 12-4. Packers won. Arizona was 9-7 and the Steelers were 12-4, yet the Cardinals were 1 play away from winning that one. We all know how the matchup the year before that went. Right now, you have two very good HEALTHY teams (depending on Gronk) in the Superbowl and it should be a great one.
