I agree 100%. I was thrilled when they drafted Michel, he was my favorite player in the 2018 draft for the Pats, only because I thought he'd be a great replacement for Lewis. The injuries were unfortunate and slowed down his progress, but counting the playoff game vs the Chargers, he has 233 carries, 1060 yards (4.55 ypc) and 9 TDs in 14 games. Not even a full season. And really, it's 13 1/2 games, since he missed MOST of that Bears game, which he was off to a good start in that game. When they drafted Michel, i was ecstatic. i watched every Georgia game I could just to watch that two-headed monster of Chubb and Michel rumble, and I liked Michel more for this offense.
I said when they drafted him that he'd be the best back NE had since Curtis Martin. I've seen nothing yet to make me doubt that. Watch him next year when the game around him gets even slower
That being said, he hasn't shown that sneaky elusiveness and speed he showed in college. Had a 74 yard and 75 yard runs last year in college. I think those will come in time. But his stats through 14 games (over 1,000 yards), you can't say he wasn't a great draft choice and didn't have a great rookie season. Also to run for 100+ yards and 3tds in his 1st playoff game, is an amazing feat.
I think next season, he will be more involved in the passing game (which will make the offense more unpredictable), and will have some longer runs. Health is the key issue with Michel. Stay healthy, and he'll have a great career.
