Deshaun Watson Suspended 11 games (Updated)

Interesting observation: The Judge is forbidding Watson from getting massages for the rest of his career, beyond those which come from "Club directed sessions and Club-approved massage therapists."

Sounds almost like a condition of probation, although it is unclear what the ramifications would be if he violated that order.
How will Watson survive? 250 million and he will have to get all his massages from Igor, the Browns 82 year old hunchback massage therapist.

We all have our crosses to bear.

It's the classic remorse that isn't really remorse. It's not, "I'm sorry for what I did". It's, "I'm sorry that people are upset about this."

The weirdest thing about this is that a woman was the one that gave only a 6 game suspension.

The problem with expressing remorse is that in many ways, an expression of remorse is an admission of guilt. He still has pending litigation - although I believe as of today it is down to just one single case still unsettled - so any expression of remorse could be used against him in court.

I'm thinking there's a good chance we're going to eventually find out.

This dude has a very specific way he gets off.

The punishment so far has been remarkably light.

In fact the chain of events got him away from an employer he didn't want to work for and got him a record amount of guaranteed cash, more cash than anyone who has done his job has ever gotten.

It's the opposite of punishment.

So, IMO, there's a good chance it does it all over again.

Hopefully any woman who ever gets in a room with him alone has the cameras rolling.

Basically her ruling says she didn't want to break precedent.

What she also said was:

Mina says judge's report is incoherent, and I agree.

Basically she said that she believes Watson violated the personal conduct penalty, and she is going to punish him an amount of games in line with previous violations of the personal conduct policy, which she did. If you look at the history of suspensions for violations of the personal conduct policy, it is overwhelmingly 1-4 games, with a small handful that went 6 games. The only ones I could find on Wiki of more than 6 games were Josh Brent (10 games for manslaughter) and Mychal Kendricks (8 games for Insider Trading).

PLEASE NOTE I am only talking about suspensions purely for violations of the Personal Conduct Policy. Other suspensions involving things like banned substances and on-field transgressions have gone longer.

call me a cynic, but i'd bet the browns training staff eventually gets replaced by "interns" from instagram...

more like "im sorry I got caught"

That is absolutely wild

This is sexual assault.

Sexual assault is a crime. The episodes were investigated and it was thought there was not enough evidence for a criminal prosecution, so no charges were brought. The NFL lawyer's opinions are not related to a criminal prosecution. You can believe he is guilty of a crime but we are not seeing all of the evidence. Clearly a very difficult and wierd situation. I am not sure 6 games is adequate as it was not a one-time episode.

There is virtually no way to prove a case like this in court so they're very wary of bringing charges.

Agreed. And it is very seedy which makes it even harder. We have not seen all of the evidence either.

My point is claiming it is "sexual assault" is to ignore the whole justice system. It is what it is - we are down to 1 woman pressing charges so it is unlikely we will ever learn much more.

Did George Gascon advise her during her deliberation period?
