Deltha O'Neal's attempt at jamming WR

Deltha was the cornerback who was the closest defender on two Steelers touchdowns and if not for drops by Steelers receivers would have been the closest Patriot on two TDs. From my vantage view in the nosebleeds I could see that the Steelers were trying to isolate Deltha on the play that Nate Washington dropped the ball.

If I were an opposing offensive coordinator I would be attacking Deltha all game long.

If this is the best we have it doesn't say much for the other guys (and I like Richardson more every game).

I knew that was the play that was going to be posted.

I snorted when I saw the replay because it was pathetically sad..

Pass rush ? does anyone realize that the DL is playing lights out as we are in nickel all the time due to the bad coverage.

i wish BB would say we are giving play so forget this and play the front 7 every down. but he is trying to play front 6 or 5 against teams.still teams are having tough time running with our DL till ty warren went down.

Re: Deltha Jamming WR

A 4-3 would make the Patriots a worse pass rushing team, period. I don't know why people continue to bring that up.

Well, isn't it obvious? Linemen rush the passer, Linebackers tackle runners, and Defensive Backs break up pass plays... and in NO WAY do any of these positions responsibilities overlap or depend on each other

Therefore, more DL means more pass rush

One word. PATHETIC. Not only this video, but Oneal's attempt at covering Ward on his touchdown was simply sad. There is a reason Cincy let him walk.

Re: Deltha Jamming WR

A 4-3 with the personnel we have would be disasterous, IMO. Oh and CBs can't chase NFL calibur WRs around for 10 seconds. It's next to impossible. What BB said is correct though. No secondary's job should rely on a pass rush. But a pass rush IS very important, if not the MOST important key to stopping the pass.

So you're saying if you have a bad front 7 but good talent in the secondary, you can hold teams? I don't know what league you've watched, but it can't be the NFL. The Broncos have sucked since they had Bly and Bailey as DB because their front 7 is like ours, no pass rush.

I look at it like this. The defensive line is the offensive line on defense. On offense, if the line doesn't block, you better have a HOFer at QB and RB to get some sort of production, even still you wont get much. If the line constantly lets a defender get through, even Barry Sanders wouldn't be able to do good things behind that line. On defense, when your front 7 is not making tackles and not generating a pass rush, they leave the DBs out there chasing WRs all day. How is that not an advantage for the offense? How is the front 7 not the most important part of the defense?

Look at the giants. Their defense is amazing but yet they don't even have elite talent in the secondary. That's all front 7. The Titans have an average corner in Harper and a former 7th round draft pick playing like all-stars. Is that because they're good or they have Bosch, Haynesworth, Brown and Kearse infront of them? It's all about the front 7. Funny enough, I see someone post in this thread bring back Poteat or earthwind.

That alone should show us elite talent in the secondary is a luxury, not a necessity. This team used to shut down the Colts with TROY BROWN as a defensive back. TROY BROWN. If that alone does not tell you our front 7 was the key, I don't know what else does. If we bring back Poteat or Earthwind, I hope we can bring back and re-juvinate Bruschi, McGinest, Vrabel and Harrison.

Those guys were key players for us. One of them is in his final season, another is probably done for good, Bruschi's on his last leg and Vrabel is nowhere near who he used to be, mostly due to the fact he's pushing his 30's. We need to get younger and quicker at SS and OLB. If we don't this defense has no chance to ever do anything great again.

I agree we need secondary help. We need another CB, but we absolutely need better safety play.

One offseason can work wonders. Lets hope, because this last FA period was Bill's worst, by far and large.

the giants have aaron ross, a better cb then any of ours

as for hte titans, that is a good example

1. Finnegan's a legitimately awesome CB for the Titans.
2. What's said about CBs not being able to cover WRs for more than a handful of seconds applies the other way around with O-linemen not being able to block D-linemen for more than a handful of seconds. Coverage is just as important as pass rushing in that sense.

Re: Deltha Jamming WR

I just hope people will remember plays like that the next time they start complaining about Pees not doing enough bump and run coverage.

Yep. I'm guilty of it too. It's frustrating when they play 10 yards off on 3rd and 6, but what choice do they have.

I hope the Patriots are more selective next year when

they sign free agent cornerbacks. The last decent prospect

they took a shot at was Deshea Townsend. I think the Pats

thought they had an agreement with him but he re-signed

with Pittsburgh.

1. Is he? Last year he was taken in the 7th round. In 2 years hes played behind a verrrry disruptive front 7. Name me one CB who played like an all-pro with a pass rush ranked the same as ours. Have fun doing so, you wont find much, if any.

2. I agree in one sense. Ifyour DBs are giving you under 3 seconds, thats on them. But that simply has not been the case this year. More times than not, the QB is back with enough time to bake a cake and complete a pass.

seriously. They added absolutely nothing to the defense in FA. Great draft though, which, IMO, makes that a pretty decent offseason. Next season is when they need to look toward FA. We have the rookies, now we need some good players to push them along.
