Deion Branch: Patriots vs. Seahawks stats comparison

And averaged 3.2 receptions for 30.5 yards per game in those 18.

Sounds fine for a 3rd WR, should be a little increased here closer to 4/40 per game.

Eh, sounds like a downgrade on Edelman to me.
Seems like Edelman has downgraded himself lately... where has he been? Slater has seen the field as a WR more than him.

Clearly someone doesn't pay attention to the injury reports.

A healthy Branch is a downgrade of an injured Edelman? Hasn't Edelman played most of his time in the slot as well?

No, A healthy Branch is a downgrade from a Healthy Edelman.

Edelman has been sitting with minor injuries because they haven't needed him. And frankly, I think "healthy deion branch" might be a paradox.

I don't know, I see all this talk about branch's inability to stay healthy but Edelman hasn't exactly been the picture of health his first 2 seasons.

I like Edelman but I guess I just don't value the 4th that much to not take a flier on a guy who simply gives the Patriots more options and flexibility. I don't expect Branch to be a game breaker, just another option to help make up for lost production.

I just don't expect Branch to be anything other than a 4th or 5th option. He's had ~400yds receiving each of the last 2 years, and Hasselbeck has pretty much no one to throw to.

Hasselback has also been a bigger injury train wreck for the Seahags over the last couple of seasons than Deion... He's a guy who flashed and never quite made it to the top of the heap before his decline occurred. He was Brett's backup and it took years for the same coach who once got Brett to follow a script to erase all the bad decision tendancies the backup picked up over those years. Branch was never a good fit for that system or that QB. Here he was.

I would have loved to have that "malcontent" Bolden for that same 4th rounder and probably less money than Branch. Or maybe a seventh for TJ. Yes this "fan-boy" Cousin D.W. says Moss did 13 TDs last year and won a game or two. By all accounts internally (not from Felger, Casserley or those other morons) he was a good soldier. If Branch does not do at least 9 TDs for us this year (Moss has four) this is a typical Pats panic WR fail pick up (see Holt, Galloway, Gabriel).

Stave Smith for a fourth rounder makes sense and would be doable in the shape Carolina is in (I might do a three for him without blinking). Stallworth will be back on the field in a few games. I respect him deep down field and with Moss picked up late in 07, Stallworth he was not used correctly. He had 46 receptions and three TDs in a after-thought roll in 07. Ozzie would take a fourth for him.

Kevin Curtis can be had for NADA. 4.3 SPEED and 77 receptions in 2007. He picks up our system right away as he is smart and had a 48 wonderlic and same age as Branch. Speaking of that, Stallworth is younger than Branch and yes Betsy, he knows our system a little fresher than Branch.

Looking at the Miami game, I would say that this offense has morphed again away from that type of offense and back to the long, sustained, grinding drive that chews up clock and breaks the will of the opponent. Like in previous times. It is prolly to be expected, to assist the young D. In Miami Moss was targeted ONCE. His role was that of decoy and blocker, primarily. This style is better suited with the recieving corps we have now. I am not quite sure, but Tate has just a little speed and a tiny deep threat himself. If opponents actually start to disrespect that because its not Moss or pick your fave here, Brady will punish them with Tate. As long as they respect it, Brady will have favorable coverage underneath. Its a win with this team.

Moss being in the situation he was, and the position and attitude that all in his position seem to have, required attention by Tom. Guys like him need 10 targets or more a game to keep them contented to protect their pocketbooks. Thats a very large percentage of the offense, and forces a team to change alignments and playcalling. I never liked it when someone like that could dictate to the coaches.

I'm fairly confident that the patriots didn't throw the ball to Moss to "line his pockets" or to "keep him content". Brady isn't great with the long ball and when Moss loses a step maybe that shifts the risk greater than the reward.

How many times has Brady actually thrown beyond 40 yards?I would love to see more of that actually to keep the defense honest. Our offense can be so damn predictable at times.

Note:
-Branch played with Brady for 100% of the games he was in for the Patriots.
-Branch played with Hasselbeck for 80% of the games he was in, with the other 20% being with Seattle backup QBs.

Hey, don't disrepsect the great Seneca Wallace like that.

As others have noted, Branch's YPC is down these last two years, but he has 2nd most receptions on the Seahawks with 13 in four games. Of those 13 receptions, seven were for 1st downs and one for a TD. Sounds like he was a pretty good performer in key situations, the kind of guy BB likes.

If he could get close to 40 short-yardage receptions in the remaining 12 games here and pickup 20 first downs and a few TDs, I'd very quickly say it's a fair trade for $3.75M and a 4th round draft pick.

More interesting about those stats is that Branch's ACL injury was in January 2008, yet he still put up 13.7 ypc in 2008, although in limited time, as he was getting back into shape. His ypc didn't drop until the following season. This makes me wonder whether he wasn't simply being used differently, rather than that he'd lost that much speed. It will be interesting to watch Sunday; that's for sure.

There are probably extenuating circumstances. I

Hasselbeck's QB rating the last 3 season shows how much he's declined.

2008: 57.8
2009: 75.1
2010: 70.7

He'll now have Brady and his 109 Rating (1st in NFL) throwing to him.

Some of you guys need to get real.

We are not getting back the same player who left here. Its a risk at this stage and a 4th round pick for him seems very steep.

I'm glad he is back and I'm hoping that he is the same player that was here a couple of years back but history is just that history. Right now this is like giving up a 4th round pick for somebody like Laverneus Coles and I don't think anybody would be happy about that.

If he was the same player he was a couple years back he'd be worth a 1st round pick.

You think Carolina would trade away their only good player for a third round pick? And what is the rationale behind shipping Randy Moss for being a malcontent and then getting a guy whose behavior has been far worse in the last couple of years?

Yup, but what those Stats Disco cites don't show is the slow but steady decline in receptions since his arrival in Seattle, or the fact that in the first quarter of the 2010 season, he's averaging nearly 4 YPC below his Seattle average. New offense? Maybe. :confused2: I expect his production to improve some with Brady, but I'm just not enthused with this deal.

Well, if we'd traded a fifth round pick maybe we could have gotten Santonio Holmes, Ted Ginn, Jr. or Greg Lewis and Doug Gabriel again.

Lewis I could see ...
