Deflating deflategate --[Mod Edit] AEI Opinion Piece in NY Times

Just a note. It isn't the NY Times. It was the American Enterprise Institute who did this study. The piece in the NY Times is an Op Ed piece from one of the authors of the report from the American Enterprise Institute (actually two authors, Kevin Hassett and Stan Veuger, are given credit for the Op Ed piece although it Veuger who actually wrote it).

AEI is a semi-right wing think tank with lots of Bush connections. It's not surprising that the rational thought is coming from that side of the aisle, even if it is appearing in the NYT.

From the AEI report pdf:

Wells, in a news conference after the report was released, has stated that his report’s results continue to hold and that “it doesn’t matter because regardless of which gauges were used the scientific consultants addressed all of the permutations in their analysis.”

This statement is factually incorrect. The Wells report neither provides evidence for every possible permutation of gauge use nor proves that the report’s conclusions are independent of gauge use. If, as the Wells report asserts, Anderson’s recollection is unreliable, then it seems to logically follow that one way to perform a thorough analysis would be to address all four possible permutations of gauge use.

Wow, the AEI study is great! I love the fact that the NFL pays millions for an "independent" report that somehow reaches a very unlikely conclusion, but a truly independent organization can take that report's own data and show that the conclusion was a farce. And it's not even hard to do...

What a surprise the NBA had a really exciting nba finals going on, and wham lets talk about deflategate.

DEFLATEGATE is over fellas, there could be a million new reports trashing the wells report,

it.

would.

not.

mater.

Kraft ACCEPTED the Penalty. In the court room of public opinion, they cheated, they are guilty. they cheated last year and every single year. That is the legacy kraft decided was worth NOT fighting to avoid.

LET IT GO.

I presume that it might matter to Brady.

"Our recommendation? When the N.F.L. hears Mr. Brady’s appeal of his suspension later this month, it should proceed with the knowledge that the Wells report is unreliable" Ha! like that will happen

unfortunately NFL has long ago ignored the science part of it and is relying on the text messages now for the discipline so all this analysis wont be heard.

Can I assume that this report was also so "rational" in its thinking because of what a hotbed of right-wing conservatism Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh is?

Good for them. I agree, and have been saying much the same thing since it came out. The case is questionable.

@SI_PeterKing The New York Times just knocks the Wells Report out of the water and no one is commenting on it? http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/14/opinion/deflating-deflategate.html?_r=0…

The New York Daily News and the New York Post are right-wing publications with lots of Bush connections. It's not surprising that irrational and vulgar thoughts on Brady and the Patriots are coming from that side of the aisle. See? Idiocy can come from both sides of the aisle. Why is there always an erection-like desire to politicize this and every other non-political issue?

Lol Peter King is gonna try to get out front of it. "I knew it was shady all along!!!!!!"

As a Pats fan this is cool & all but it will do nothing to change the opinion of 90% of the country that the Pats and Brady cheated.
Only way that changes is if ESPN takes this AEI report and gives it a major push... That ain't happening:mad:

Hassett, the AEI Director, served as a policy consultant to the US Department of the Treasury during both the George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton administrations, so I wouldn't paint his ideology as slanted as some have inferred.
