Well...i thought one of the emergencies was when you had make them punt more than 1 time, no ? All this protect player stuff is hard to believe. You think what he did now protects butler. ? Look at this board! People are killing him for saying "they lost faith in me!"

I'm quite sure BB could care less what we think, just the league. Butler hurt his own value by opening his mouth.

Ahhhh but JOKES on them because Bill already said it wasn't a disciplinary choice.

So bill says Butler didn't do anything wrong, Butler says he didn't do anything wrong, That means Bill thought butler wasn't physically capable of playing defense despite playing 98% of the teams snaps up until that point. This screams personal issue with butler.
BB is protecting butler is also the theory .

Malcolm strongly denies its disciplinary. BB said it’s not disciplinary. Can we please stop with the crap about missed flights and drugs?

It was a decision based on football. Which is what makes it downright bizarre not to just try him in the second half and try to get a spark going. Something. It was a mistake. Can’t be perfect all the time.
Belichick is not going to discuss the reasons. Butler certainly isn’t either. Butler doesn’t say it wasn’t discipline he just listed a couple of things he didn’t do. I mean let’s not call a tweet from a guy who is about to try to sign a free agent contract after being benched due thr Sb the gold standard of truth.

I have no doubts we win the super bowl if butler started that game. Agholor was killing us. I really hope we know the truth as to why butler was benched. It also assigns other guys on other players.

So, if we’re to believe both this and Belichick and assume it was a football decision, that is absolutely mind boggling. I feel bad for the players because, for once, the coaching staff failed them. That’s if this is to be believed.

The coaching staff has failed the team before. It’s not the first time.

What this statement confirms is belichick’s own words that it WAS butler’s performance that caused belichick to bench him. What is inexplicable, however, was Bill’s failure to even insert Butler into the lineup in the 3rd quarter to spark the defense.

Ok then. Butler’s lying, BB is lying and the only ones we can believe are the whispers from the “mediots”?????

I give you props for being one of the more prominent forum posters, and yet having one of the more level headed attitudes towards this.

Several of the prominent posters on this board, that of which are involved in this argument, always seem to use almost sort of bully tactics that they blend in with blind homerism to make their opinions seem superior.

I didn’t say you made anything I said you argued whatvthr punishment should have been without knowing what the punishment was for.

I’m not implying anything I’d the sort.
I’m saying if belichick felt he needed to bench butler he had to have a good reason.
Do you disagree? Do you think he did it on a whim for no reason at all?

The difference here is you are saying the punishment was too harsh and I am saying we don’t know what the punishment was based upon do how can we know it’s to harsh?
I don't think he did it for no reason at all. His definition of a good reason and mine (and yours) may be different. He may have done it on a whim based on the timing, or he did it to really stick it to Malcolm, without considering how he was sticking it to the rest of the team. And yes, I think the punishment was too harsh for the way it impacted the rest of the team, even without knowing what it was based on.

No one has to be lying.
Are you expecting butler to announce what got him benched?
Belichick has a long standing policy of saying exactly what he said. Call it lying if you want, but it’s what he says every time because the details are no ones business.

Since this thread is basically just discussing Butler then I’m locking it - we already have a Butler thread.
