Of all the QB controversies, the Eason/Grogs/Flutie situation was fascinating to live through.

1983- Grogan is bood mercilessly but was not the problem
1984- Eason lights it up but fizzles out at the end of the season. The calls for Grogs grow louder
1985-Eason starts the season, gets hurt, Grogs wins 7 of 8, Eason helps them to the SB
1986- Eason is outstanding, gets hurt on MNF, Grogs comes in and wins the division.
1987- Eason is a greedy ***** with his contract BS. Grogs comes in and is jerked around.
1988- Same as 1988 but Flutie did OK as a backup. At that point he was a better option than Grogs
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. After the run the Pats had recently it doesn't hurt as much.

That's because there's a bunch of morons on this board who don't understand football and the significance of an offseason especially when it comes to the Qb position. Cam was out football for an entire year before he signed with the Pat's and had virtually no offseason in a Covid year and you dumbasses want to continue to act like that had no effect on not only Cam but the Patriots as a team in general. It's actually hilarious at how many of you have a single digit IQ when it comes to football. I can't wait until Cam makes you guys eat your words the only sad thing is Cam is going to get this team to the playoffs and the cry baby undeserving ass Pat's fans will still get to celebrate after trashing him for an entire year. Absolutely pathetic.
I've been a Pats fan for 61 years and a fan of football even longer. I earned the right to call out a crappy QB when I see one, especially when it's a blowhard like Cam.

I hope that Cam gets the Pats to the playoffs, but it won't be easy. He's not very accurate and seems to have trouble reading defenses. Cam can't talk his way into the playoffs.

If the Pats make it the defense will probably be a major factor. They look to be better.

Even with almost half of the teams making the playoffs it'll be tough for the Pats unless they solve their QB problem.

Jeff George and Jamarcus Russell say “hey”.

One more throw like that in practice against no pass rushers and some on this site will be frothing at the mouth, outraged that Belichick didn’t cough up more than the three first round picks that SF gave up in order to get up to #3 to take Lance.
Never said that, only replying to the OP for down playing the pass as another ordinary pass. Whether he’s another great QB or those 2 QBs you named only time will tell.

I’m not a believer in Mac Jones as my signature suggests, I would rather have Fields, again only time will tell. Though I would be ecstatic if I’m wrong about Mac.

I think pfk's point still stands. Why not give the kid some reps over Hoyer?
Why bother? QB reps are precious in NE.

Besides there is something at play here IMO...

I think the NEP are pushing Mac to see what his breaking point is. Reps. Film study. Hard coaching. Scheme stuff.

The NEP value reps. They are giving Hoyer's reps to Mac and don't want to waste them on a JAG.

Is the future now or a year from now?

Ok, fess up, how many of us read this as "I think he stinks"???

Personally I'm glad to read that Harry is improving.

I hope our patsfans community can have a little more patience with him.

I think this is a "do or die" offseason for him, either he shows well or he's cut or traded.

I think it'll be really interesting to see how it plays out.
He has serious potential and I've been patiently waiting to see if he comes around. I still hope he does. The trade request was unfortunate though.

Truth.

God was that road painful.

1989-1992 was 1000 times worse.
The thing that always bothered me was even when they had good teams something would happen. And whenever they needed help from another team they hardly ever got it.

That all changed in 2001 when we needed the Jets to beat the Raiders to give the Pats a home playoff game. I remember sitting with my son at Carolina with many thousands of Pats fans as we chanted J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets! in the last game of the season.

My how times have changed. And right now I'm getting that sh!t eating grin that I get whenever I think of the incredible run they had.

I do think some don't and perhaps it's more with Harry than with Cam.
Cam doesn't have the potential that Harry has so I'll be pulling harder for Harry. He could become special.

There is something to be said about creating your own luck in life....

The patriots have added the following starters (or potential starters) this off season.

Jones
Agholor
Bourne
Smith
Henry
Brown

Godchaux
Judon
Van noy
Hightower
Mills
McMillan

That is over half the team and it is almost impossible to argue any are not an upgrade.

Through draft and free agency they gave also added/improved depth at RB, IOL, DE, DT, OLB and other former starters are now likely in reserve roles upgrading depth.

A mediocre .500 level team that upgraded literally half of the roster should be considering the future to be now.

Guess we gotta give the blind squirrel his due, it was Volin who got the quote:

Seems his wife has a pretty good perspective on things. A quick google suggests he's pulled in $29M over his years. He was getting starter money for a bit there in CLE. He doesn't have to work ever again, especially not for the hours and wages a NFL QB coach would make. It's smarter to keep the wife happy rather than give her half of everything in a divorce.

Just put yourself in his place. If you had the chance to play QB in the NFL, and make great money (he is making more than a million dollars even this year when he may not make the team) or be an entry level coach (making much less, at least for the first few years), what would you do? Playing QB pays way better, and presumably he enjoys it. Wouldn't you?

Once he is no longer able to play QB, then that will be a different conversation. Does he want to be a coach or some non-football related career?

Many have excelled at the non-football related careers after retirement (or before, Nick Saban has a Mercedes Benz dealership in Birmingham that looks like Disneyland), but it wouldn't be shocking if Hoyer decides to do a bit of coaching or other football related activities (such as local broadcasting) once he isn't a NFL QB anymore.

Don't feed the trolls.

This brings up feelings I didn’t remember I had

To be totally honest, Volin isn't as bad as he used to be. He still sucks, but there have been fewer "Kraft Mac & Cheese" incidents in the last couple year, at least as far as I've noticed.
That's cause most of his material is copied from someone else.

I cannot express how badly I want Harry to turn it around because it would be hilarious to watch some of you struggle to deal with the pain of a player you don't like doing well.

Hey camp guys from Patriots nation. The video's on here are mostly pitch and catch. If any of you guys can get some video on linebackers vs running backs blocking, o-line vs d-line 1 on 1 blocking or pads running drills that would be awesome today. Trench warfare themed. I seen 1 video on Yahoo when Rhamondre trucked Bryant on a running play, that was goood.

If this post was shorter, I'd make it my sig.

Agree.

May the best QB for 2021 win
