Saw this piece on the Rotoworld site. One thing about scouts...they don't mince words.
An anonymous NFL scout called Stanford OG David Yankey undraftable.
"I must not know what the heck I'm doing," the scout told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He's one of the most disappointing guys I saw. I see that guy get pushed around, then he ran 5.5 at the combine. You've got to be kidding me. Free agent." Yankey, considered by some the top OG prospect during the season, has seen his stock deflate since it ended. He's consistent at being inconsistent," another scout said. "There's a lot of want there, but I just think he's nonathletic. He's a stiff guy. That bothers me. But you know what? There's so many in the league like that. I don't like him." A third scout was more complimentary: "A real battler. Generally a good anchor. Gets careless with head duck and will lunge. A Stanford kid will do what he needs to do to be successful."

It figures. A guy named "Yankey" sucks.

Just kidding. In the right power scheme I think he'll be fine. Just not here please. Perhaps Cowboys or Giants.

Go Sox!

I saw that article today. I agree in that I would not use 29 or probably 62 on him. 93 OTOH might still be in play.

Never saw him as the potential 1st round prospect that some here saw--at all. As a matter of fact, I was shocked when I saw some here mocking him at 29.

I don't agree that "he's undraftable" though. That's a pretty harsh assessment.

He sure played LT well in 2012 for a guy that is so unathletic. I don't read too much into anything that comes out in the 2 weeks leading up to the draft so this certainly wouldn't deter me from taking Yankey. As Big-T pointed out in the 'Where Will We Draft an Interior Offensive Lineman' thread, DeGuglielmo has tended to go for bigger offensive lineman. At 6'6" 315lbs Yankey certainly fits that mold. He's got long arms (34"), heavy hands and despite a poor 40 time his other testing numbers weren't too bad (28.5" vert and a 7.81 3-cone). I think he would also have the versatility to play both OG spots (although I think he is better suited to RG for this team) and maybe even RT because he did do a good job at LT for Stanford in 2012. If he's there in the 3rd round or later I would have absolutely no hesitation taking him and giving him a shot to win the RG job. I would even consider him at 62, although I may be biased because he was born in Australia.

Yeah, I don't tend to be as harsh as often as I did when I first started doing this...

...but I laid waste to Yankey 3 months ago.

Side Note: Anyone ignorant enough to believe that Yankees suck is in for a Rude Awakening:

If you were born in New EngLand, you are a Yankee.

There is a Silver Lining, though: turns out that it is the greatest thing that one can possibly be.

Huh. Didn't he win the award for Best OL in the Pac-12 as voted on by the league's defensive linemen?

And on Twitter last night, I think Daniel Jeremiah called him one of the two best guards in the draft, along with LSU's Trai Turner.
