Danny Baugher cut because of assault charge???

Perhaps I missed this, but this piece was buried in the end of Gasper's piece on Rodney... apparently he was charged with assault.

More than football may have been involved in the Patriots' somewhat surprising decision to cut ties with punter Danny Baugher and sign veteran Chris Hanson. Baugher, who in three exhibition games had punted nine times for a gross average of 44.8 yards and net of 39.0, was recently charged with assault by the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office.

The 23-year-old Baugher appeared to have the inside track on the job after the team released veteran Josh Miller and followed by releasing Tom Malone, who like Baugher spent last season on the practice squad and was sent to NFL Europa this spring for seasoning.

The Cincinnati Patriots?

I read on PFT that something was up with the Baugher cut. I don't know how his agent could say that they are working something out and expect him back with the team, maybe he's hoping that these charges will get dropped and he'll be back. Either that, or they released this info now, so no one will take a chance of signing him up.

Knowing nothing of this situation but from the link above, it sounds tragically like the movie "Fear Strikes Out" where Jimmy Piersall blows a gasket against his very intense and pushing father.

There were quite a few articles earlier about how Baugher's dad was working him out all the time and really was his personal coach.

It would be unfair at this time to make the comparison to the Piersall's, but if the assault charge does indeed include Baugher son and father, there could be some similarities.

Very, very sad.

Yes, there were posts on here and on the Planet (first) about this. The post on here, the later one, said that it occurred after the release and the charges were dropped.
