Curran: Brady and his no-good, 6-2 Pats march on

The 2013 Patriots are a lot like the 2012 Falcons. Not nearly as good as their record. No one believed in them either

Pats will get to the playoffs... but just pray they don't draw the Broncos or the Chiefs

I don't think praying has anything to do with it. You beat the teams you face, that's how you advance in the playoffs. And if you think the Pats you watched this week is the same team that will be playing in January, you obviously haven't watched a lot of Patriots football.

I'm fine with you not believing in the Pats, I'd be even more fine with you jumping off the bandwagon to go root for your new team. See ya!

Going into the bye at 7-2 would be huge. Is it being done with smoke and mirrors? Yes, maybe on some level...sure, but we've seen other deep playoff teams hang in there through adversity until they "make their move." We're lacking in some areas, and proving our toughness and ability to adapt in others.

I do know this---I don't want to hear about any of the "is it better to get the first round bye or not" talk this year. For a team like this, the opportunity to have 2 weeks rest and win ONE home game to play in the AFCCG is almost needed in my opinion, if we're expecting a "deep" playoff run.

Bottom line is that they have the chance to go into the much needed bye at 7-2, which would likely allow some important players such as Kelly, Talib, and Vereen to return to health. More importantly, it may allow the coaching staff to make some assessments and changes for the second half of the season too.

We have the WORST 6-2 team in the history of the NFL according to most media pundits!

I'm a glass-is-half-full kinda guy. I prefer to think of the Pats as one of the best 8-8 teams in the NFL. Over-performing to get to 6-2. This team has so many serious problems that it's amazing they are what they are -- 6-2 and comfortably leading their division.

It's hard to adjust to watching the team scratch and claw to try to win a game, but fun when they do.

Every week I read the same old excuse.

I hear you. It also seems to be inevitable at some point that they'll improve, seeing as how they have played one game total with both Amendola and Gronkowski together.

Somehow they keep continuing to put up 30, 27, 27, 23 etc so I don't think they are necessarily terrible--but there is definite reason for concern. They appear to be mediocre at the moment with the hope to be "good," but the lack of third down conversions in 3 last 4 games have to be maddening for Brady and Belichick.

And they need to feed Ridley the damn ball throughout the entire game. Fumbles will happen a few times a year with just about anyone, but we need him to get hot.

"Strap it on for a week of, “What’s wrong with Brady?” and “I saw this happen with Bledsoe.” sponsored by people who’ve been watching good football so long they don’t remember what bad football really looks like."

This. I know expectations are high but I still remember how happy I was when the Pats beat the Colts on their way to a 1-15 season. So disappointment about going 6-2 is not something I subscribe to.

They are a grinding team...and the booing I am never a big fan of. If it is obvious, boo. Obvious.

Some fans have really short memories...this 2013 version of our team is a grinding 60 minute team.

Hang in there for the entire game fans...I am sure it would be nice as players to hear your fans at your back for 60 minutes instead of being in your face after 30....

The entire league sucks.....flawed teams everywhere you look.
And the Pats......more holes on a Pats team than I can ever remember in the BB era
But.....if other teams can't get their acts together....
WHY NOT THE PATS
I see their flaws. My expectations are very low. I enjoy the wins......quickly brush off a loss. A three hour distraction that usually has a pleasant ending. No need for weekly self examination.
Just a simple....WHY NOT THE PATS.....then on with the rest of the day

I don't buy that you can be 6-2 in the NFLby luck. This defense has played their ***es off despite the adversity and bBrady is doing just enough to win the games

And this while gronk is still on a snap count working himself into game shape and amendola is as well...as those guys get healthy and vereen gets back expect a different offense.

But I can't believe how fans are so spoiled to doubt this team and chalk their record up to "luck"

This is the pats best start since 2010.

Every week I read the same old excuse.

Soo you don't think having gronk for the majority of snaps instead of roughly 50%, amendola yhe same(was on a snap count as well) and our best 3rd down back who can line up all over the field will improve the offense?

Also the OL needs to get it together but they will scar has always gotten them to perform well eventually

Did the Pats pass the eye ball test to you so far?

They're very lucky to be 6-2 so far. Even if they get to the playoffs, will they keep getting lucky breaks? I hope so, but, this team isn't very good.
I would use a lot of adjectives (some good, some bad) to describe this team. "Lucky" would not be one of them. I must be watching different games than you are.

Glad someone is. We are such a negative society. I swear if someone gave many of us 1mil we'd look at the bills and say, "but they're dirty and wrinkled."

Called my neighbor this am and said what a glorious sports day yesterday was and she replied, "I don't know, Brady almost lost that one, and if it weren't for Gomes, the Sox would have lost the game last night."

My mother used to talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth. I really wasn't sure I understood her till now. Next time I talk to that neighbor and get the same response--which I will-- I'm going to ask her how many teeth that horse has. She won't have a clue what I'm talking about, but then again maybe she will, she's of an age.

I absolutely LOVE how TFB digs in and smashes any door creeping open about excuses and his throwing hand. You can tell the look on his face is impressive. Man, when his boys grow up they better look out!

Just love the fact that he is even pissed at someone entertaining the thought of the possibility of him using a swollen hand as an excuse.

NIce....

No, no. For your sanity's sake, please just stop talking to her.

The NFL is a very mediocre product this year. The Steelers stink, the Giants are bad, the Falcons were projected to be a SB contender, same for the Texans and they both stink. Think Seattle is perhaps the only team with a defense even remotely approaching top shelf.
If Tom Brady can elevate his game (sorry kids but it's not all on the WR's) the Patriots can play with/beat anyone in football.
It's a very weird year in the NFL.

Agreed. There are some great fans at the games, and have been great fans attending the games for a long time (I have attended 1 or 2 games a year since 1988), but about half tipped their hand when they walked out in the Saints game and became a national joke when the team won. Every time I hear boos now, and I knew they were coming before the half yesterday, I will hate it because it reminds me of that debacle. Memories of the 2004 playoff game against the Titans and the great fans that endured that weather seem very distant.

Brady said he "didn't hear" the boos yesterday, and has called out the fans who bolted on previous occasions in the good games. He is too political to outright call those fans lousy, but that is the implication.

You don't have to - I mean ask your neighbor about the teeth.

Some are wired to always look at the half-full glass, some at the half-empty. That's life and as long as you and she are comfortable with the respective ways you look @ life, why bother to go out of the way to admonish someone for their way?

Just be aware of their style and stay away out of conversations like this that are bound to affect your day and mood. After all, realize that if you still go out of your way to ask about the horse's teeth, you risk ruining a good relationship (big assumption) with a neighbor who is going to be there for a long time irrespective of how the Pats do.

That said, do plead with her to root for the Pats every friggin game and pray that these injuries stop.

It’s Beethoven being asked to conduct his Fifth Symphony to a bunch of first-graders playing kazoos. After they ate a pack of crackers. Or course his numbers suck.

That's the line of the article, right there.

With the continued improvement and health of Gronk and Amendola, along with more experience for Dobson on the offensive side of the ball coupled with the returns of Talib and Kelly on the defensive side of the ball, we should be seeing a contender come January. Health, as always, is the biggest key here.

Hope is a good thing and lets hope the second half D we saw yesterday is here to stay !

what scares me most is the rate at which we are losing key play makers from the team I still can't get over the scream that Vollmer let out when he got injured.... its like it got stuck somewhere in a corner on my mind and keep playing in a loop.
