Cunningham On The Bubble This Summer?

He's been on the bubble a long time now. Wouldn't be surprised.

Hell, gotta admit, though, I would have ditched him ages ago. But I think he knows where bodies are buried.

I think he's a bubble player. I believe he's in the last year of his contract and Bequette and Buchanan are too young to even think about cutting yet. We could keep six players at DE though and if we do I imagine he sticks. I think it's a battle between Cunningham, Vega and Benard for the last DE spot. Cunningham's versatility to go inside on small packages might give him the edge.

Whatever he took that got him suspended he better start taking again if he wants to make the team. Just don't get busted this time

He was BY FAR the most effective inside pass rusher we had last year.
He improved his stock with his play in 2012, not hurt it.

I think he makes it, but Benard reverting to 2011 form will knock him off the roster if even one of the UDFA tackles are any good.

As of now, he starts at sub package DT and is the #3 DE.
An awful lot has to happen to knock him off the roster.

I think someone will have to take a roster spot from Cunningham more than he can lose it. I think he is a bubble player since he is in his last year of his rookie deal, has a drug suspension, and hasn't lived up to his draft selection; but it will require other depth players to step up and prove they are more worthy of a roster spot over him.

Cunningham isn't trying to play himself onto the roster this summer, but he could certainly play himself off the roster this summer.

Why would what round he was drafted in have anything to do with making the roster?
You are implying that a 6th rounder who isn't as good as a 2nd rounder makes the team over him because he outplayed his draft slot while the 2nd rounder who is better didn't?
That has absolutely nothing to do with any decision making, even if it is central to the thought process of some on this board.

He's probably first in line when it comes to possible "surprise" cuts.

I don't know how surprised anyone who follows this team would be if he was cut.

he's noting more then dept so there is always a chance he could not make the team they already cut players who I think were better then him ( Love Deadrick ) either way I don't see him doing much with the pats or any other team he's on

I think that Cunningham is nothing close to being a lock, which would indeed place him squarely on the bubble.

That said, he is one of the most versatile players on the front seven, so that may end up helping him. It's a shame that his talent level doesn't go hand in hand with his versatility.

Would be nice if he would be smarter about that... Adderal

Reports from voluntary workouts are that he has bulked up quite a bit.

So that either means he'll be even better prepared for playing some DT, or he's going to be suspended for half the season.

Does that really matter anymore? Where he was drafted shouldn't impact his status at this point. If he can help the team he should make the roster.

I love most of my former boys from The Swamp, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend like I believe he would have made the team last year if not for what happened with Fanene. The Patriots at that point were desperate for interior pass rush and pretty much had to retain Cunningham. However, he wasn't exactly the savior in an area of the unit that, at times, was pathetic last season. With the additions of Kelly and Armstead as well as Ninkovich's role on the team and the drafting of Collins (though I'm not exactly sure how much the team is going to use him as a pass rusher in his rookie season), I think this will finally be the year where the Pats part ways with Cunningham.

This is the Patriots we're talking about here. Everyone, save for Brady and maybe Wilfork, is trying to play themselves onto the roster.
