Could the Patriots Win a SB With Hoyer as the Starting QB?

Patriots make the Super Bowl 4 out of the last 5 years with mostly the same core of players and coaching staff.
This thread isn't about the value of Brady or the capability of Hoyer. It is asking this question: with an average, or just below average NFL QB, is the Pats' 2019 run game, system offense, defense, and ST capable of pulling off an improbable SB win?

I like the intellectual exercise. What else to do in the offseason? To make this into anything more than that is to react the same way the WEEI pundits do - looking for something to be offended by and pessimistic about.

I think it would be possible, but the ball would have to bounce the right way a lot of times, and the coaching staff would have to be remarkably creative and take risks they normally don't. I think this edition of the defense can be one of the best ever. So, low odds, but possible.
This sums up my thoughts well. This team has made it to 4 out of the last 5 Super Bowls. I'm pretty sure they'd make it to the playoffs at the very least. From there on out you'd need your fair share of lucky bounces to run the table with Hoyer, just as we've had our fair share of lucky bounces in 2014 and 2016

0.0. He can barely compete against backups in the preseason.

Sorry for the long, highly analytical response but . . .

NO!

hahah...Hoyer. lol.

do you really think Hoyer or any other QB could have done what 12 did in KC in AFCC? 3 4th Q+OT game altering drives...??

they might make the playoffs simply because someone has to win this division

No but I don't think we're talking about "Could Hoyer have done what Brady did in 2014, 2016, 2018?" we're talking about what he could do in 2019 or beyond. If the Texans can make it to the playoffs (and I think the divisional round?) with Hoyer I'm pretty sure we could find a way. Once they get to the divisional round with him it'd take a lot of luck and he'd have to be carried through a SB appearance/win but I don't know why we're all acting like it's so incredibly impossible for this team to have a chance with Hoyer

yeah, i think it's impossible. im sure many would agree. it's less likely he can carry this team to a super bowl in 2019 than it would have been in 2014, 2016 etc

They actually lost 30-0 wild card weekend in a game Hoyer threw 4 interceptions.

Honestly I think that is the biggest indictment of the team's chances at winning a SB with Hoyer.

No. Other teams have had trouble winning a game with Hoyer. How could we win a SB? I guess BB could coach him up, but the last time a starter was suddenly "sat" for the SB, that portion of the team was lousy on the field, BB notwithstanding.

I am using his career, particularly the time he was Cleveland qb and single hand idly started bringing that team back out of laughable status until the FO started screwing it up again

I think we’d would make playoffs, depending on opponent win a game, and I wouldn’t put a SB as a certain I
ImPossibility

A BB and Hoyer team is still better than around 28 other teams in the NFL, but not the best, as we are w Brady, and to get from 4th best to 1st best it’s exponential increase not linear, for those thinking Brady only giving us 4 spots isn’t realistic

So you are basically implying we would make the AFCCG with Hoyer?

Hoyer started for the 49ers. At that time they had a weak supporting cast.
Never the less the results were not inspiring although he did run well since
he was frequently running for his life.

There is no way this thread should be on its 5th page.

Brady just has that clutch gene. Someone on Twitter posted Brady's record his last 16 playoff games (2013-18), And the numbers are mind boggling, 13-3 record (3 SB wins), 452 for 702 ($64.4 %), 5,230 yards, 7.45 yards per attempt, 43.9 Attempts per game, 31 TDs 12 Ints, 94.4 passer rating.

This coming against the AFC's best teams and NFC's best team. The losses came in 1 SB and 2 AFCCG, so no "one and done". Always gets to the AFCCG at least. So no, I don't think the Pats can get to or win a SB without Brady. Hoyer, though serviceable, never seemed like a guy who could be consistent as a winner.

Brady's numbers in conference championship games are surprisingly mediocre.
