If that were the case, China would still be dealing with this all over their countryWuhan was quarantined in late Jan, millions of people had left by then.
Been reported about 5 million.

Ugh. You’re right and I’ve fully supported the measures being taken but we had better succeed if we are going to put half of the population out of jobs in the process.I'm not being irresponsible. Those numbers are going to happen and possibly even if we shut down for two weeks.
I'm not working from home. I work in manufacturing. I'm trying to keep everyone at work safe. We have purell stations and wipes all over the building. I preach social distancing. We have a lot of people who are 60+. We have a lot of people who work paycheck to paycheck.
This virus is twice as contagious as the flu and twenty to thirty times more lethal. It was allowed to roam free for at least a month but possibly longer.
All the numbers we are seeing are from those that show strong enough symptoms to be tested. Which means another possible 80% of those infected are running around spreading it further.
Unlike the flu you can spread it without showing any signs of illness.
So no I'm not being irresponsible.
Entire countries are shutting themselves down for a reason.
How, exactly, is speculating on a worst case scenario irresponsible?
Planning for the worst case scenario is my primary approach to everything in life. Don't fixate on positive thinking, fixate on and plan for the negative. That way, at least, you are not caught unawares and most of the time things will turn out much better than that.
Nah I got my 4x4, Cabelas hat and my 9mm. I'll get right though security and a photo op w/ Trump. Please dont drive over to the White House in your winnebago if you do.
Regards,
Chris
Cat was already out of the house, it was too late. That's my point. We've been chasing the wind the whole time too little too late.
It's a projection. A lot of projections have the numbers high. They're based on the numbers in other countries, mathematics, computer simulations, etc.
The projections are made so that the government and people can try to prepare for these things to happen and try to get as accurate a read as possible. Sure, sometimes it's a range that's given, but you can still estimate.
Otherwise, what are we to do? Just throw our hands up, say that no one can possibly predict anything, and have no expectations or plans?

I'm not a hater but here's something to think about. China might have not been forthcoming but everyone around the world found out at the same time. South Korea and Taiwan were on top of it, got to work, and it shows. We might have delayed it with travel ban (I kind of doubt it actually) ...who knows but for the reason we weren't ready, I'm irritated. We're the Fking United States. As a the late Elihja Cummings said "We're better than this". Let's not kid ourselves...this wasn't our finest moment.
I’m not sure if you’re joking or not. Either way, I had a chuckle.
CAT was let out of the bag in early December. Unfortunately, the WHO did not indicate it was a public health emergency until January 30. If the Chinese spoke up in early on instead of trying keep it contained when their concern was international reputation, this wouldn't be happening now. If they had said anything about the virus at the time we could have taken precautions. No one knew anything about it - what its properties were, how it goes from person to person, how long does it stay airborne or stick on surfaces, or how dangerous it was. You can't just shut the whole country down without knowing about the virus.
I never said the response was perfect, but to say Trump did nothing for 4 weeks is just plain wrong and borne out of hatred. The testing for sure could have been better. But as I stated in an earlier post the death-per-capita rate in the US has been tiny so far.
funny..it's been non stop Trump hating from the day he was elected..yet people who support what Trump is doing are the crazy ones?..So, the thing he said.
I mean, I didn't mind Trump's travel ban and never spoke out against it. But it's just frustrating watching the Trump cult play silly games to protect their dear leader from the merest of criticism.
Do you guys have some sort of global alert system that lets you know to rush to your keyboards when someone says anything even remotely critical of the guy?
Nah, it's serious, but you know that.
Example 1: Instead of just hoping that this goes poorly I'm preparing for a worst case scenario. I'm expecting to lose my job and for this to take well over a year. I'm on a spending fast, avoiding behavior that puts me at a risk for catching the disease, and prioritizing which investments I'll offload first if I need to in order to have food and shelter.
Example 2: Instead of just hoping you'd try to have an earnest convo with me I assumed you'd reply with the same tired fake laugh snark your ilk thinks works as a debate tactic in lieu of anything of merit.
I seriously hope that you're right. 14 days ago Italy only had 150 deaths. They are now over 3400 and that's with a shut down. They are also 1/6 of our population. Granted there are differences but we need to act fast regardless.
What did the travel ban accomplish, exactly?
Italy had lost 41 on March 5th, they have lost nearly 500 today. Two week span. We lost 41 yesterday. Hopefully we got a jump on the virus with the isolation measures over the past week but it is not wild speculation to say we could reach a point when we lose 1000 in a day.Wildly speculating about thousands of deaths per day is irresponsible and just really, really stupid. I don’t care if you’re posting on a message board or yelling into an empty room. It’s just silly.
The Administration response could have been better but it also could have been worse.

Why doesn’t Trump just order a national shut down at this point? We are watching slowly as state by state they are shutting down. If it’s inevitable let’s just do it all at once.Only recently has the federal government taken this seriously and we are mostly relying on the states, when we should be getting direction from the president. It's a cluster faulk.
