If that were the case, China would still be dealing with this all over their country
Ugh. You’re right and I’ve fully supported the measures being taken but we had better succeed if we are going to put half of the population out of jobs in the process.
I’m not sure if you’re joking or not. Either way, I had a chuckle.
Nah I got my 4x4, Cabelas hat and my 9mm. I'll get right though security and a photo op w/ Trump.
CAT was let out of the bag in early December. Unfortunately, the WHO did not indicate it was a public health emergency until January 30. If the Chinese spoke up in early on instead of trying keep it contained when their concern was international reputation, this wouldn't be happening now. If they had said anything about the virus at the time we could have taken precautions. No one knew anything about it since it was new - what its properties were, how it goes from person to person, how long does it stay airborne or stick on surfaces, how dangerous it was, etc. You can't just shut the whole country down without knowing more about the virus. The Chinese had studied this thing for weeks and could have told us everything.
You’re right. The governor of CA has more information than everyone at CDC, WHO, etc. You will not see those numbers if you visit those organizations’ websites or contact them. They don’t even know. Knowing that, the governor was purely speculating. How is that so difficult to understand?
This is spot on. All of the countries that immediately planned for a worst case scenario, mainly those who have dealt with SARS, are beating it. The countries that haven't been hit by a pandemic in the last generation were kind of just lax, remembering all of the epidemics that never spread. And the thought was worst case scenario would be that some people get infected and need to be quarantined.
The asymptomatic nature of this virus is bound to rewrite the rules on "worst case scenario" forever.
There's no doubt we could have started the testing earlier. The South Koreans already had a plan in place for pandemics due to SARs. We got caught flat-footed since SARs didn't affect us as much. But to say that the President did nothing is not true.
Nah, it's serious, but you know that.
Example 1: Instead of just hoping that this goes poorly I'm preparing for a worst case scenario. I'm expecting to lose my job and for this to take well over a year. I'm on a spending fast, avoiding behavior that puts me at a risk for catching the disease, and prioritizing which investments I'll offload first if I need to in order to have food and shelter.
Example 2: Instead of just hoping you'd try to have an earnest convo with me I assumed you'd reply with the same tired fake laugh snark your ilk thinks works as a debate tactic in lieu of anything of merit.
Look, I agree that China faulked up and did typical China stuff, but there was enough information floating around to begin taking precautions and preparing. We did none of that. We ignored it, called it a media and democratic hoax, called it the same as the flu, said people will be fine and it will die out. Only recently has the federal government taken this seriously and we are mostly relying on the states, when we should be getting direction from the president. It's a cluster faulk.
Yet, here I am, in my house playing first grade teacher and also doing my job. We still are doing shiznit for testing. This is the USA, we are supposed to have our shiznit together.
I seriously hope that you're right. 14 days ago Italy only had 150 deaths. They are now over 3400 and that's with a shut down. They are also 1/6 of our population. Granted there are differences but we need to act fast regardless.
funny..it's been non stop Trump hating from the day he was elected..yet people who support what Trump is doing are the crazy ones?..
What is my ilk? You seem to be all knowing apparently. I was genuinely laughing at your post because I thought you were joking, but okay. Saying you expect the worst in life seems incredibly unhealthy to me. But hey, you know me and my ilk! Whatever the **** that even means.
The Administration response could have been better but it also could have been worse.
One expert said it possibly slowed down the virus a whole day. Another said two minutes.
Italy had lost 41 on March 5th, they have lost nearly 500 today. Two week span. We lost 41 yesterday. Hopefully we got a jump on the virus with the isolation measures over the past week but it is not wild speculation to say we could reach a point when we lose 1000 in a day.
If you rewind to February it would also sound absurd to say we will lose all gains in the stock market during the Trump presidency by the end of next month. Yet here we are. Say what you will but there aint a vaccine walkin thru that door.
Thanks for going back to this point again.
Why doesn’t Trump just order a national shut down at this point? We are watching slowly as state by state they are shutting down. If it’s inevitable let’s just do it all at once.
They are reacting fast now which is comforting. But when we're talking in terms of exponential a month is an incredible amount of time.
I sincerely hope they pull this off. Right now we're down 28-3.
