Cooks traded to Rams for 23 overall pick

So out of all those names the only one that I think would have made a difference in the game we played would have been Hightower. That’s it.
My emphasis on defense is important, when Hightower goes down there is a huge drop off, literally I feel there is no leadership in there.
Let’s not forget Hightower has been injury prone and has missed his fair share of games the last few years.
Take Hightower away and put all the other guys that you mentioned, they would not have made a difference.
If we had studs we would have gotten to Foles, if we would have generated enough pressure at the start of the game we could have gotten to Foles head, and you know how he deals with when there is pressure on his face.

Brady can get us the points, but if our defensive line can’t generate enough pressure not even the best secondary in the world can save you.

Just more proof that you have zero concept on how teams are built.
The fact that you don't think having Jonathan Jones, our best slot corner, on the field to cover the Eagles slot receiver just goes to show that your opinion isn't worth much.

Having Vincent Valentine in there to spell Brown and Guy would have helped tremendously. Especially since Valentine is underrated in pass rushing.

Having both would have helped significantly to generate pressure. That's what you're failing to understand.

And, like I said, you can't even be bothered to give credit to the Eagles' O-line for their excellent play.. Which you still refuse to do.

Disappointed won’t get to see year 2 of Cooks with Brady. Never really got to see that with Moss either (not putting Cooks on that level, at all), but as easy as it is to nitpick some of the bad with Cooks, there was a lot of exciting stuff too. He low key put up some numbers that would be applauded instead of mocked if he were other WRs and there was a lot of positives that could have blown up too.

Totally get the trade. Problems with future contract, for all I think was good he didn’t make himself irreplaceable, and the Pats have certainly done more with less raw talent at WR before. Will withhold final judgment until we see what they do with the pick, but while I can buy the long term positives, on its face I’m not sure how this makes the 2018 team more likely to win it all. I was always on the “All In with TB” train, but irrelevant of your position on that, as of the JG trade, the franchise was too.

That said, it would sting a lot less if Dola were still around. As many have referenced, the reliability/Brady mind meld factor is questionable at this point with the 2018 squad. JE11 coming off knee at 30+, Gronk questions, etc. Long way to regular season but one thing we do know is that they aren’t going to replace 6 seasons of play with TB between Dola/Cooks with more experience in the system. Hogan, Jules, Gronk are the guys in that camp now and there are injury, age, and/or commitment issues with all of them at this point. One of the great pleasures of TBs career has been seeing him adjust to new scenarios, but the fear of him being able to do that one more time is real.

In BB I trust...but at least partly because for the first time the alternative is certain defeat.

Is this like that time Julian Edelman was a bust because he couldn't get snaps over Deion Branch and Wes Welker?
Wait how can a 7th round pick be a bust? And so far Dorsett has been an underachieving 1st rounder which is what a bust is.

Very interesting trade.

I’ll miss cooks because of his speed and he kept defenses from choking our offense with a single high safety.

But I remember that cooks does not run a complete route tree and is not a great yac guy.

Bottom line is bb will trade a guy a year early rather than a year late. I think bb redeemed himself after getting fleeced by John Lynch in the jimmy trade.

He could trade number 23 and a future first to try and get a QB but idk if brady would like it.

after getting fleeced by John Lynch in the jimmy trade.

Ya Belichick should have demanded at least a 1st and then when Lynch told him no and the season ended and the Pats couldn't franchise or extend Garoppolo because Brady was still there and Garoppolo got the same deal from the 49ers and the Pats ended up with an end of the 3rd round 2019 comp pick i'm sure you and others that think he got
fleeced" would be hailing Belichick for letting Garoppolo walk and not getting at least something better than a 2019 end of the 3rd round pick ....

We never got to see Cooks and Edelman together

I bet we trade 31 for an offensive weapon (WR/TE/RB) and then use 23 for a LT probably trading up slightly to 18 or 19 to make sure we get the one we like.

Effectively we wind up with a free pick swap from 31 to 23 in exchange for swapping Cooks for the mystery weapon mentioned above.

I seem to remember a certain part of the board mocking a certain other part of the board for being underwhelmed with Mr. Cooks. Looks like we weren’t the only ones.

Reports state that they attempted to sign him to an extension, but the two sides were too far apart.

I'd like to hate this trade but then I think about two #1 picks and two #2 picks...
Wait how can a 7th round pick be a bust? And so far Dorsett has been an underachieving 1st rounder which is what a bust is.

So it's Dorsett's fault Ryan Grigson was a fool who reached entirely too high for a WR?

The point is there were people saying Edelman wasn't good because he didn't play.

Thurman Thomas kept Barry Sanders on the bench at Oklahoma State, was it because Barry sucked?

For some reason everyone hated cooks when he here.

Great value for pats though
The guy was talented, but dropped passes and never felt like he was anywhere as vital as JE11 or Amendola. I'm happy to see him go, if it means we can address other needs.

Sucks to see Cooks go as he was a reliable option to take the top off defenses. But I can see the Pats refusing to pay 14m per year for a wide receiver. They've always made do with less at that position. Now though, if they trade Gronk, who does Brady throw the ball to?

Hopefully we get a really good LT in the 1st round now. I don't buy the talk of us trading up for a QB. We will look for a high value proposition. 2nd round is the earliest I see us taking a developmental QB. We're in 'win now' mode.

Slept through the party.

Congrats to the people who called it and I disagreed with. I didn’t see any team giving up more than a second round pick and didn’t account for the Rams continuing their shopping spree. That is a great haul for a WR on his final year rookie contract deal.

The memories left of Cooks will be mild disappointment despite a good overall season. What did him in was the lack of physicality at times (rarely fought for balls, not able to play in the middle of the field), limited route tree (deep, comebacks and ins), average hands (lots of dropped short passes) and very questionable decision making. Despite that he was a great complimentary piece to move coverages.. it is a shame we never got to see him with Edelman. Either way Dorset does 70% of that at 20% of his cost.

With the LT a potential question mark I guess verticality will not be an emphasis this season.

Or, you know, they weren't going to pay 14mil a year for ANY WR. Reports are that they spent the past month trying to work out a deal they could live with, so I guess they didn't hate him /that/ much.

I have no doubt he would have had a big second season.

I keep hearing this LT talk. I am not impressed by the LTs in this years draft. Drafting a LB like vander Esch would be ideal.

I think he would have had a better season than last year and I dont think the 8.5m this year would have been an issue. That being said one year of Cooks vs. 4-5 years of a cost controlled potential starter (via #23) is a not a difficult decision.

23 and 31 add up to 1360 on the draft vale chart...or SF's #7 pick with a 6th thrown in
