Conor McDermott released with injury settlement

Another hit to our depth up front…

We lost him for the season when he was put on IR before the cutdown.

Now, I believe, he theoretically can return after the games for which he settled and another set amount of time pass.

Not surprising really; I never thought his injury, whatever it was, was that serious anyway.

He'll sign with a practice squad somewhere, if not ours, before the end of the month.

He steadied the line last year despite his limitations but supposedly hasn't had a great camp this year..

He stood out in camp as one of the biggest guys on the field, but he did not seem very good at pass blocking

Can't believe some had him pencilled in as Starter...Mac would be taken off on a stretcher. McDermutt is absolutely terrible Big for Nothing.

I'm not as excited, but it seemed pretty clear he was passed on the depth chart by Sow before they picked up both last-minute OTs.

^this. was ok run blocker. below avg pass blocker. able to play both sides. I had hoped he could have been that 4th option for swing T or sat on the PS as an option.
I assume the team feels Reiff can do so, while they work with Wheatley, Lowe and hope Sow eventually elevates to one of the T spots.
for me, enough with the Stuebber, Sherman, Herron, Cajuste, Garcia hope/need for them to turn into something. fine with flooding some of the day 3 picks on hope, but go get a franchise T in rd 1 and forget about it for 5-6 years.

I did, and when we bring him back I think he will end up starting at the RT spot

Trent Brown, Calvin Anderson, Sidy Sow, Tyrone Wheatley.... McDermott isn't better than any of these.

Any suggestion he was going to be the starter was ridiculously premature.

Seems like hedging their bets. If their RTs start getting hurt as the season progresses, or if their new additions at tackle via trade somehow don’t work out (or a combination of both situations), they can call McDermott if the **** hits the fan by mid-season.

Reiff’s on IR. He’s not going to do anything while they work with the new guys.

If you feel that way, you apparently missed the job he did at the end of last year where he performed pretty well (he played all but one snap over the final six weeks).

Is he a true NFL starter? Maybe not. But you dubbing him a "Big for Nothing" is completely off base. He's absolutely a valuable player to have on their depth chart. And you keep making statements like that in general, which you honestly need to reel in because you tend to miss the big picture with some of the things you've posted on here as of late.

During the 2 pre-season games I saw (the GB game was never re-broadcast), I didn't think he was that bad out there... Not much push in the running game, but his pass-blocking wasn't nearly as sieve-like as Reiffer's, Stubby's or the Sow's.

McD's a 4th OT at best on a legit contender; but one could certainly do worse than him on a 16-man practice squad.
