Congratulations to Mr. Peyton Manning on winning this seasons MVP

Extrapolating for the rest of the season (just talking hypothetically), it would be the same as last year, a three-horse race, except instead of Rodgers, Brees, Brady it would be Peyton, Rodgers, Brady.

It's going to be a QB, and it's going to be one of those three, with Brady looking in from the outside barring some ridiculous string of crazy stat games. I fully expect Peyton to get MVP #5 at this point.

JJ never stood a chance in this day and age.

What Peyton is doing so far this season with the injury he had is pretty remarkable. I have no problem with him as a strong candidate for MVP. That being said, there is still a lot of football left to play...outdoors...in the cold. We shall see.

Brady is absolutely in the MVP race, but as last year proved, yardage is not as important as TD-INT ratio, and comp% being next in line. Brees broke the single season yardage record and Rodgers was the obvious MVP with an absurd 45-6 and a 68.3% comp.

Brady is going to have to tear it up to win it this season, because there are several other guys who are putting up all of the better ratios that the voters prefer.

They have to look at the Patriots' offense. This may be a historic one. They are off the charts so far.

Peyton should be a shoe-in for Comeback Player of the Year, but the MVP as of right now should either go to his little brother or Matt Ryan. Of course, plenty of things could change throughout the course of the season.

I'd take Peyton over Eli. But, then, I've only watched two Giants games this year, and Eli was atrocious in both. He was horrid this weekend against Dallas.

If the NFL has any sort of decency, JJ Watt should be leading everyone's ballet at this point of the season.

Why....is JJ Watt a BALLET dancer?????????

I'm not saying I approve or disapprove, but the people who vote on these things are far more likely to go for Peyton or Rodgers. Both are completing almost 70% of their passes and have more TDs than Brady. If the MVP came out today, Brady would be the 3rd wheel. It could and probably will change, however. Eight games to go.

You should watch more then. Eli has been phenomenal in other games and his work in the 4th quarter alone should garner him some attention. If I had to sit and think about it, though, I would probably give it to Ryan. He's playing some pretty good ball this year and his weapons are finally coming into their own. Of course Peyton would deserve some consideration, but I wouldn't have him winning it at this point.

Two games into the season the idiots at ESPN were talking about Griffin III and Luck as MVP candidates. The constant rush to judgement in the electronic media is pathetic...

This is the best answer so far. I am VERY impressed by what Manning is able to accomplish after the type of injury he had, and the surgeries he continues to recover from. IF he leads his team to the playoffs this year, I would certainly think he would EASILY deserve the MVP. He obviously will get the "Comeback POY" which is very well deserved. But, I do think his play will suffer when the cold weather sets in and he has to play in the snow/sleet outdoors. They (Donks) have done a good job adjusting the O to his arm strength at present. The short to mid routes he can handle right now. I don't know how much more arm strength he will get....but he doesn't need to throw the long bombs....the short to mid range passing is working...they have a decent running game....their D is pretty damned good...and Manning, like Brady is one of the best "field generals" in the game. I expect to see them in the playoffs....where unfortuneatly I will have to "Hate" on Peyton once again!

Manning was 6th in passer rating in 2009. Won the MVP, even though both Brees and Favre had considerably better numbers while winning just one and two less games than him, respectively. In 2008, he had the 5th best passer rating in football, he threw for only 27 Touchdowns, and barely cracked 4000 yards. His team won 12 games, which, while a good number, isn't anything impressive. He still was MVP. In 2003 McNair accounted for more touchdowns, had a better passer rating, with less weapons, while playing only 14 games. The Titans also won the same amount of games the Colts did. Peyton was still co-MVP with him.

If he won the award then, I see no reason to believe he won't win it now. Fact is, unless some quarterback breaks a significant record, or leads his team to about 4 more wins than Manning does, while being statistically comparable to him, they'll give the award to Peyton. Combine that with this season's "coming back from the dead" storyline, and Manning's as much of a lock to win MVP as a player ever was, even if his play declines and other players are better over the course of the season. Still look forward to him being bounced out of the playoffs in the first round again, after winning his record 5th award.

Oh, and another thing. Tebow was 7-4 with arguably a worse Broncos team last season. That's a 63.6 winning percentage. If Manning doesn't win 11 games or more, he'd have won as many games as Tebow was on pace to win last year, had he played a full season. I'd love to see how the same people who devalue Brady because Cassel won 11 games in 2008 would spin that.

The MVP award, for the most part, has been a curse to those who have won it since 2000. I'd rather have the Lombardi trophy. Manning can have it.

The argument then was that he won more games than Brees so if the NFL writers have any consistency, which they don't, Ryan should win the MVP if the Falcons end up with more wins especially since Ryan's team beat Manning's team this year.

That said they are itching to give it to Manning so he'll probably win it. It is what it is.

To me, either Brady or Rodgers deserve MVP. Both the Patriots and the Packers would struggle to win 5 games without those guys.

The Decision Tree left out one crucial node:

Manning misses season due to injury -----> Issue Press Release "Manning would have been MVP if he had played this year."

What? You mean you don't believe in the Patriots' "System?!?"

We are only 8 games into the season and the MVP has already been decided i.e Peyton Manning. These days no matter which sports show you listen to everybody seems to have already crowned Peyton as the MVP......... I mean he is a great QB blah blah blah but crowning the MVP 8 games into the season ????

Peter king had made up his mind on the MVP the day Peyton signed with the Broncos
Saint Dungy .... well he will call Peyton the MVP even after Peyton retires

Two people whom i have not heard call Peyton this years MVP are Rob 'Packer' who in my humble opinion is the worst sports writer/host ever. As per him the only MVP is Rodgers. And the other person is Skip "Tebow" Bayless.

The Broncos have a great team this year no doubt, Their defense is one of the best in the NFL their defense is playing at the same level they did with Tebow at the helm. So far they have beaten the Steelers,Raiders,Chargers and Saints.

Lets face it other than the Steelers none of the teams they have beaten are even going to end up with a winning record this year. The Broncos got their collective asses kicked by the Texans,Falcons and the Pats.

I find it surprising that when Peyton has been less spectacular than Eli,Matt Ryan and Adrian Peterson how is he the unanimous MVP ?

Good God, man. Are you really this sensitive about Peyton getting any credit? I haven't heard anyone say that Peyton is the 'unanimous' MVP, though he's clearly in the running. He's leading the NFL in passer rating ferchrissakes. Get a grip.

All kidding and sarcasm aside, the writers are looking for new "favorites." They hyped Flacco early in the season ("Hey, me too, I'm 'Elite!'"), until he turned into, well, um, Joe Flacco.

Now they're hyping Matt Ryan as a guy who has paid his dues, which Schaub has not yet done. If (big "If," especially for the volatile Giants) both teams continue playing well, I'd bet that the media spin comes down to Matty Ice ("Tough BC kid who has come into his own at last.") vs. Eli ("Let's finally give him the regular season credit he is due."). If the Broncos end up 13--3 or 12--4 and get a Bye, I'd probably re-evaluate that.

Anybody who had illusions of winning "Comeback Player of the Year" can abandon them though, as that is clearly going to Peyton, and, probably, rightly so.
