Congrats to Marte Mapu.

The season hasn't gone as hoped, but he put up 7 tackles (3 solo) and an INT in a game where the pats held Josh Allen to 154 yards passing.

He's number 15 if you want to keep an eye on him.

Yeah I know what number he wears; and for a 3rd-round draft pick he STILL ****ing Sucks.

Marte is a good player and is a hybrid... he's rangy, instinctive and can play multiple positions. Health has been what has held him back as a player. However he's a promising young talent that will have a big role in the defense next season and beyond.
I generally agree. But returning an EZ INT to the one yard line instead of taking a touchback on the 20 isn’t the best instincts. May be more than health holding him back. I’d like to see him earn more opportunities. He needs to continue to make plays when he has the chance, while eliminating brain fart like taking bad angles or not taking a knee when he should.

I think BB's plan was to replace Dugger with Mapu. Might of been a good move.
Yeah in fairness, BB may have been right. Dugger has NOT looked like a guy who earned his massive contract.

Your correct.. how many times this season have we seen easy INTs dropped like Hawkins for example for is a starter he's dropped at least 2 or 3 easy ones. Marte just needs more time on the field he's a hybrid player once we add some rushers and thumpers on defense Marte will have more opportunities to make plays.. he should be the 3rd safety not Hawkins.

I don't know if it makes it better or worse but I'd like to think it wasn't a brain fart and was intentionally returned. He obviously isn't Deion but Sanders used to talk about being aggressive and always returning it even out of the end zone. A) he was supremely confident and B) he just thought with offensive players who aren't good at tackling that he could make a huge play.

C) Marte you aren't Deion.

I agree, and I generally like aggressive plays. I think you nailed his thinking, he thought about the potential for a big return but the situation didn’t allow it and by the time he realized that he had one foot out of the EZ. I think replay shows he hesitated then, which just put him down on the one instead of three or four. Just thinking slower than the game was moving. More time on the field would help. Being Deion would help more.

Mapu came from a small school so he will take extra time to develop. Also he was injured. I think he will be OK. You don't see flashes like we are seeing when a guy is going to be a bust. Show me some flashes from Polk or Baker!!

He caught it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's about it.

He needs to learn more about getting free and actually CATCHING the ball...looks like he's spent more time learning his fkn celebration dance than the playbook.

Perfectly put. I see no flashes from polk or baker. I don't know what's going on with those guys. But marte has a future with this team. My guy peppers should just sit the last 2 games out to get to the off season and get 100% from that hamstring where Marte can play more and we can no for sure about the 3rd safety role.

He almost had another INT too.

That BB sure sucks at the draft.
I’m sure Mapu was a Kraft pick until the interception, right?

Agreed. Let Peppers sit. I think we need a real FS. I was hoping we would sign McKinley last year to a 3 or 4 year contract.

Dont the little Rascals believe that Jonathan is calling the shots?

I think FS is a massive need personally, people don't realize how good Marshall Devin was back there.
Yeah, he definitely made mistakes (Brother Jason saved his bacon in the SB when he made the wrong decision).
He was extremely fast, and usually made the right decision, plus made a lot of the calls.
Dugger is NOT a FS IMHO.

It is kind of a topic discussed a lot. Was Devin wrong, or was Jason supposed to rotate over on that play. BB was surprised. Maybe Devin messed up twice? I don't think so. Jason was quoted as saying:

"They had called that play earlier in the game," McCourty said. "I said ... I've got to be there if that play comes up again. We messed it up a little bit on the front side but luckily I just put my head down and took off and was able to get the ball out."

I looked at it that Devin made the wrong decision, I think they already had 2 guys on the left, and he went that way... meanwhile it LOOKED like Jason was handling him off to D.
JASON was like his brother, Fast As ****, and was able to break it up.
Either way, Devin was a STUD as a FS, and we've struggled in that area ever since he retired.
This is IMO, nothing else.

Thanks

I agree, Marte had a good game - certainly by far his best since he’s been with us and hopefully it bodes well for the future. That being said, and not to be a “downer” (no pun intended) but there happened to be a receiver by the name of Josh Downs who was available and was selected by my most hated team (Colts) 2 picks later. I know, I know, hindsight yadayadayada, and no one could have predicted his college QB would end up as our new savior. I do seem to recall however, there was a fair bit of head scratching amongst Patriot Nation after selecting 3 defensive players in a row with WR being a bigger position of ”need”. Downs, while maybe not being a #1 receiver for a team would in my opinion, be OUR #1 WR - just sayin….

Definitely agree. The FS is the QB of defense! In a perfect world Dugger, peppers, marpu at FS could work.. but marpu would need to fully commit to that position and allow his skill set to allow him to roam free and make plays 15-20 yards off the LOS. If not then we are looking for that guy in FA.. like a Justin Simmons?

Another great game by Marty McPoo amirite

< 10 days until people start getting fired...
