Cap has increased and will keep increasing

That's the problem. Teams are forced to pay payers because they can't hoard cap space for more than 5 years. When Trey Flowers signed his shocking $90M deal at $18M per year, it was considered among the top for DE/Edge players. Only 7 years later the top guy is making $46M per year. It's gotten completely out of control. Mediocre players like Flowers cause the market to explode. Alex Smith had talked about this a few years ago how mid tier FA's don't exist anymore. You have to pay top 10 money for mediocre guys likes like Oweh and Phillips.

However, QB is the biggest problem. Patrick Mahomes is the most accomplished player in the league, yet he's somehow the 15th ranked contract. There's no reason why Tua and Kyler Murray should've been making more than him. Now the Dolphins are taking a record dead cap hit. That's why I don't understand when people say "it's the market" because none of these players are in Mahomes' class. If Drake Maye stacks a couple more good season's together, get ready for him to make $60-$70M per year.
