With the injuries this was really his first full year as a starter. He's definitely one of the better QBs in the league right now and he does have room to grow.

I think he is « good enough to win you key games » and « could be one of the most productive QBs in the league atm ». That would be plenty.

« of alltime » gets thrown around entirely too often.

I'm trying to figure out Shanahan's motivation in speaking, is Jimmy lacking in self-confidence and so gave him a boost.

Since the SB choke job, has JG been living in his bathroom on a diet of tequilla, porn stars and ludes?

I’d take JG right now on this team if he was available.

Not sure why anyone would consider him for a future “best of all time” category, but at the same time I would be very excited if he were available right now. He was about 85% of the way to being SB MVP. Even if you disagree with that statement, he at least was the starting QB on a team that came pretty damn close to winning the championship.

It's that last 15 percent that separates MVPS from everyone else. He'd probably still fit right in with the Pats though

Ah, the old days.

You know, we had a great draft in 1981.

Holloway, Collins, Blackmon, Wooten and Dawson.

I agree. Do you think there is any chance he’ll go down as « one of the best of all time » ?

POAT - Prettiest of all time.

Thats it. SF will not repeat and go back to back Super Bowls. Bank on it.

Yes. But he'll have to really start producing now that he's finally healthy. And he'll have to do it for a very long time. He's got the talent to pull it off if his body holds together though.

Jimmy G is a very good QB, whether he becomes elite is as much a matter of luck, health, and the performance of his teammates as anything else.

SF seems to be set up to compete for the next few years. If he wins say 2 SBs that would rocket him up the list of best QBs of all time.

If he even manages to win 1 SB he will still have had more post season success than Brees and Rodgers.

I think he’s a good QB right now, and has a chance to be even better than good. They drafted WR Brandon Aiyuk in the first round this year and add in Deebo Samuels from last year, amongst others they have at WR & TE. They have some good weapons on offense, and a good defense.

Sometimes you have to lose, to learn how to win. Look at the Chiefs in 2018, then they go on to win it all in 2019. We’ve seen it happen in the NFL a few times.

In the SB, Shanahan witnessed a QB who unquestionably has the ability to be a top five QB of all time. But he was wearing red for the opposition.

There's no way he believes this. Sorry. This is a way to boost the ego of a fragile QB. If him and Lynch were so sure of their QB, they wouldn't have needed to explore the Brady idea in the offseason.

Difference being the Chiefs had/have a once in a generation type of QB. And they lost in the conference title game. Not the SB. Teams don't rebound to win a SB after losing the previous year's big game. It just doesn't happen. The Pats did it. But the Pats are the exception to everything.

They might be #1 in odds. But they aren't far and away better than everyone else in the NFC. Shanahan isn't much better (If at all) than Carroll, Payton, Arians, and McCarthy. They also avoided the Saints and Seahawks in the playoffs last year.

They were a blatant missed PI away from being the 2 seed. These types of things don't happen two years in a row. Most importantly, I think the likes of Wilson, Dak, Brady, and Brees are better QB's than Jimmy G.

I think your last sentence is true, no doubt. But SF may have a better roster than all of them. That defense is for real, and I think they collapsed in the SB because they were worn out due to the offense collapsing in the 4th quarter, Give credit to the Chiefs D playing well late.

49ers were gashing the Chiefs with the run, and I think the Chiefs D made great adjustments late to shut down the run. That being said, I can see the 49ers being better than last year. I can see them bucking the trend.

Back to Jimmy, how many games has he started in the NFL ? 26 ? There’s no reason why he can’t improve. He’s very talented. Not comparing him, but Steve Young didn’t win a SB his first year as a starter when he finally got his chance as a starter. Jimmy has started 1 1/2 seasons. It’ll be an interesting season for him, does he become great, or fall into obscurity ?

Cowboys had the 11th(points)/9th(yards) defense as well as an elite running back. Dak Prescott is better than JG? :headscratch:

Brady and Brees might be better than JG. Or their arms could fall off.

1/4 ain't bad.

In that same interview, Shanny also said that Jimmy still can't read defenses. o_O
