Combine Time

A draft can be weak at a position. There's some drafts where 6 QB's go top 12. There's one where only one goes in the top 20.

Being the best in a draft isn't as important as how you are as a prospect.

Idk why we would pass up one of the two top d-lineman in the draft at 4 to take a much bigger risk at offensive line just because we really want one to be worth it. That's how you end up getting bust and regretting it.

Overall this is a truism, such as this year’s QB class sucks in comparison to last year’s, or most years for that matter. However as far as Campbell goes he has been starting against the best pass rushers in the country since he started as a true freshman at 18 years old, and has essentially shut them down while dominating as a run blocker against the best defenses in college football. As with Mason Graham I think the ability to start every game as an 18 year old, and true freshman, and hold their own against the best players in college football, demonstrates that they will make the transition to the NFL easily.

I thought this was a good read on what people are saying about the Pats at the Combine.

--Pats are out on Tee Higgins and don't see great options at a WR1. Deebo not seen as a fit.
--Pats don't think Carter will be available at 4.
--Pats like Hunter as a CB and WR
--Pats like Campbell and Graham
--If trade down, maybe the TE Warren
--Godchaux might yield a 5th or 6th round pick
--Some interest in keeping Johnathan Jones
--Streicher seen as an interesting Swiss Army knife

You know, if the Pats are really smart, which I would love would be to take a running back to run behind Cambell. Big fast bruiser or a receiving back who can get open quick and move the chains. That's Patriot football! I like 2 guys, Ashton Jeantry (skat back) or a winter road grater Omarion Hampton... F the wideouts this year, ground and pound....

I think you are mistaken in regards to the data. From what I have heard discussed in regards to tackles with arms shorter than 33” the data is about the percent of starting left tackles in the NFL with arms shorter than 33”, not about their ability to play the position.
I am just going by what I read. And I can see your point a little about self prophecy but I also don't think you can just right it off like that there is most definitely a correlation between skill and starting.

Pretty good list. I think the Tee Higgins out is not correct though. Giardi still reporting they'd be in on him and that article actually says they are in on Higgins, IF he comes available. Just a question being available.
In free agency the Patriots are viewed as Tee Higgins, Chris Godwin or bust, per a source with knowledge of their thinking.

My dream scenario below might be unfolding.......Nah,, unlikely but they are saying maybe!

No way Hunter falls at 4, I would almost rather have Warren.
But he isn’t falling past 6.
I hope we rebuild our team thru free agency.

1) Carter 1) Cam Ward

2) Ward 2) Carter

3) Sanders 3) Sanders

4) Hunter 4) Hunter

If the giants pick sanders over hunter, it will be one of the most laughable draft decisions in recent memory and the patriots can laugh their way up to the podium to select hunter.

That's what we want and they want a QB match made in...

You do have Raiders, Saints and Vegas that may still need a QB and might trade up.
I would also be willing to try to trade up 1 spot for Hunter, to me he's the 1 special player in this draft.
If it is Carter and then Ward things get interesting.

I didn't think Penix Jr. - JJ McCarthy and Bo Nix would go as early as they all went last year. There's something about Reaching for QB's on Draft Day.

you'll be pleased to know that the Pats have met with Hampton at the combine.

Really hope Shedeur Sanders blows the Giants socks off on his Pro Day.

Slim pickings in the 2025 QB FA class and Sam Darnold needs a almost perfect situation...buyer beware. IF I'm a Team I want nothing to do with Kirk Cousins and old man Rodgers.

I would love to see Hampton on the Patriots

Actually what I am saying is that Campbell’s skills at LT are excellent, and that 1/8 of an inch shouldn’t keep him from starting.

I think you are mistaken in regards to the data. From what I have heard discussed in regards to tackles with arms shorter than 33” the data is about the percent of starting left tackles in the NFL with arms shorter than 33”, not about their ability to play the position. IMO this reflects kind of a self fulfilling prophecy where teams started drafting tackles with longer arms and moving those with slightly shorter arms inside. I’m not saying that it isn’t more desirable for your tackles to have longer arms, but I am saying that it shouldn’t be a disqualifier if the player has always played the position at a high level but their arms are fractionally shorter than other prospects. I would be far more concerned if a tackle was slow footed or had ****ty balance, or simply did not play tough enough for the position. If he had 31 inch arms I could see it being an issue, but as it stands his arm length is 1/8 shorter than Rashawn Slater, and 3/8 shorter than Penei Sewell.

Campbell has been starting at Left Tackle for LSU since day one of his college career, and has faced the best pass rushers in the country throughout that time, only giving up 4 sacks in 3 years. He would be a massive upgrade for the Patriots OL. And if next years draft gives them an opportunity for another top tackle they could always take them and bump Campbell inside, which would just make their OL that much better.

Ultimately I think percentiles matter to a limited degree, but you then have to look at the individual player to see whether it effects their play or not, and I think it’s safe to say with Campbell that it doesn’t effect his play.
I have been on the Graham bandwagon for awhile
But I now have Campbell in the same discussion
I love Simmons but his injury scares me.
No one knows if it is a ACL or Patella. If he isn’t coming out screaming ACL then it may be a Patella which is a concern
I like Campbell more than Banks. His run blocking is more violent than Banks

Edit: I also think we will get DL (lots of good options) in FA but OT are drying up in FA
So it may be Campbell

I'm not going to quibble but I'm also not going to ignore the stats either. It's something to consider leading up to the draft but also something I'll never talk about again if we draft him.

It's not like if he gets beat in week 6 by a good rusher I'm going to start screaming about his arm length.

If we can't get Hunter or Carter then I'll turn my wish list to Graham, Campbell, Johnson, or Tet and I'll get excited about any of them.
