It's easy, and only takes a few moments. What Scar gets is that it's more valuable to have agile feet, allowing the player to stay over his base and play with leverage and, thus, power. Wingspan counts for naught if your base sucks. If Scar says it doesnt matter then thats good enough for me. The man has forgotten more about football then everything we think we know on this forum.
This is important, a lineman has to be a good athlete. A wide wingspan is great when paired with athleticism. Without athleticism you just have a big guy who has to reach, grab and draw flags. What Scar gets is that it's more valuable to have agile feet, allowing the player to stay over his base and play with leverage and, thus, power. Trying to get Blood from a stone Woz??This is important, a lineman has to be a good athlete. A wide wingspan is great when paired with athleticism. Without athleticism you just have a big guy who has to reach, grab and draw flags.
We saw what an obsession with wingspan and little to no athleticism got us because Elliot Wolf was enamored with arm length and could care less about athleticism… it’s why the linemen he brought in sucked.
If Doug Marrone can get Demontry Jacobs to play with his feet and not his arms he will become a stud. He has very good athleticism and his wingspan is the widest we’ve seen since Trent Brown. Coach that kid up, but bring in some real competition in case he doesn’t learn.
Better coaches develop young players. It’s not enough to just bring them to camp.Trying to get Blood from a stone Woz??
I really hope Marrone is poor man's Scar as a OL-Coach.Better coaches develop young players. It’s not enough to just bring them to camp.
He’s considered one of the better line coaches in the league. I loved this hire, the Pats have a lot of good pieces to work with, they just need to fix the tackle spots.I really hope Marrone is poor man's Scar as a OL-Coach.
That's easy. Grant. At least he'll play next year. Also has tonnes of upside. If you trade back up into the bottom third of the 1st round, do you take OT Josh Simmons or DT Kenneth Grant?
In fairness though that is hindsight.I agree, in fact I would take Maye not only over all this years draft QB's, but all of last years too. For me he has so much natural ability, this young man could be great.
Yes it is partly hindisght. In fairness though that is hindsight.
Part of the discussion included the high bust rates of previously highly drafted QBs.
Now I am glad that the Pats took Maye,
But having the top 3 picks be QBs and all succeed is an outlier.
No but his cousin RayRay hasHave you ever met a prospect you didn't like? Ever?
How lucky we areYes it is partly hindisght.
But leading up to the 2024 draft it was also widely discussed by draftniks as a possible Golden Generation for QBs, drawing comparisons to the historically great 1983 QB draft class which produced 3 Hall of Famers: Elway, Marino, and Kelly.
LInk to Yahoo Article.
It made a lot of sense to make the dice roll in a strong QB draft class then to wait a year for a significantly weaker one with also the chance of having to trade up to get your QB of choice.
Nobody knew Mayo's reign would be so disastrous that we should have had the #1 overall pick this year. But what good is even having the #1 pick, when the best QB in the 2025 draft might only be equivalent to the 5th best QB of the 2024 draft?
And imagine so many people wanted to skip on drafting Drake Maye last year. Trade down then get your QB the next year, they said. Would you rather have Ward, Sanders, or Drake Maye as your QB once camp starts in 2025? I know my choice!
It was on the other night so I watched the chase scene a couple times.
Josh. There's so many DTs in this class. If you trade back up into the bottom third of the 1st round, do you take OT Josh Simmons or DT Kenneth Grant?
So many we’re picking him apartNow the same people are claiming it was a “ no brainer,” even though they didn’t want him, and would have crucified Wolf if Maye had turned out to be Zach Wilson.
Simmons by 100 miles….there are literally 20 defensive tackles in this class who will be legit nfl players. Simmons might be the only true left tackle to come out of this class. If you trade back up into the bottom third of the 1st round, do you take OT Josh Simmons or DT Kenneth Grant?
