Collins, Jones, Easley, and Hicks current teams have a combined 14 wins…

It's a meaningless bit of trivia that tells us nothing of any value.

This is kind of ignoring the second part to the OP that states how most of those players are failing to raise to their contractual expectations, bar Hicks, which provides legitimacy to the thread overall.

While a teams performance is not at all indicative of a single player, the fact that the Browns are getting a dose of care-free Collins is, in my opinion, what is more crucial in this post.

Especially when you consider the outcry to each of these player's releases.

Nice post Brady6 but you left out one important item of interest...OUR Danny is STILL a Pat!!!

I didn't respond to that because it's a non-issue. Hicks was the only guy who got a money deal, and he's performing. Jones is doing the same things he did in N.E., for the same money. Easley was a first rounder who was cut, and is now playing for just $600k. Collins was playing poorly enough to get his playing time cut in N.E. prior to getting traded.

At this point I'm confused what exactly your post is indicating as what you just stated in this post is what the original post was implying (from my prospective).

So at this point I concede to..

I don't even know. I guess I've stated what I intended so whatever.

It's simple: The O.P. is a nothing bit of trivia that has no real value. It basically knocks players for going to lesser teams, when every team is a lesser team. However, one of the players was a cut and two were trades (one to a known dumpster fire and one to a team that was expected to compete for the title), meaning they had no choice, and there is no pattern. The only player, among those listed in the title, for whom this

I hope these guys make money because they certainly are not winning football games. I add Revis to the mix, and these stud players teams have a combined record of 18 wins – 56 losses this season.

has any real meaning, is Hicks, and he's playing well while getting what he wanted. So, the end line

I hope Hightower and Butler realize that they might make more green elsewhere but the grass is going to be brown as the Browns record

is ridiculous.

The only guy worth mentioning is Collins IMO.

Jones we knew what he was and while on the field and locker room was a professional. Same for Hicks.
Easley we have no clue what the deal was but he was injured all the time so it didn't matter much.
Collins just is one of those talented guys who never got it mentally. Maybe cause he never put the time in.

Besides Collins I don't see a reason to be spiteful. Thank them for their service and move on.

Job satisfaction + very good salary > no job satisfaction + excellent salary.

Sure if you're talking $60k + happiness vs. $80k and no happiness. Or $2m and happiness vs. $2.5m and no happiness.

But if some team is giving 2x the guaranteed money I'm not sure that job satisfaction factors in quite so high to most of us.

I uh, don't know what Collins did that is spite worthy. Only a few people anywhere had even made any sort of comments about how he was underperforming/freelancing, I know I sure as hell wasn't seeing it.

But even then, 'freelancing' doesn't mean a player is worthy of your spite.

Job satisfaction + very good salary > no job satisfaction + excellent salary.

Where the line is can be a tough one to figure out. How much more money makes up for a job you enjoy less?
But your overall point is so true (one I didn't realize until later in life). Getting out of bed in the morning to go to a job you like is a big win in life (and not the norm).

Let's not forget Aaron Dobson. Clearly he was the primary catalyst for the Lions return to the playoffs.

Only for the player. Given that a single player can effect the lives of thousands of people with another million dollars in earnings, an argument can be made that your formula is the definition of narcissism and greed.

Generally I agree with your deconstruction of the pattern in the post, but didn't read the post as knocking the players so much as making an entertaining observation.

Trying to be responsible for other people's happiness never ends well, and it's much more psychologically healthy to not even bother trying. Also, Revis likes playing for the Jets (really, I think he likes the attention he receives there) so it was money and job satisfaction versus making Patriots fans happy. Given that he's hit the age cliff, we're now happy he didn't sign anyway, so...everybody won?

Out of all of them, Hicks is really the only guy that I wish they could have brought back. What he gave to the team as far as being a three down DT that demanded double teams, stuffed the run, and generated a push up the gut against the pass is hard to replace. Brown has showed flashes of it throughout the season but has been inconsistent. The team has not missed Jones, Easley, or Collins at all thus far.

Perhaps he liked playing for them last year. This season has been a whirlwind of a difference...his age has caught up with him, and the team has not responded in kind to winning. I'm sure he doesn't regret his decision and he shouldn't because it's been made, but at this moment I don't think he's "happy" to be a Jet.

It isn't about other people's happiness. It is about building civil society, which has always depended on a very small number of people with relative extreme excess to have foresight and use the funds as investments. For example, I spent a few hours today in the Chester Beatty library in Dublin, who was a guy who started his career as a miner and ended up with a wonderful collection of antique religious books and art that now sits in Dublin as a permanent anchor into for intelligence and empathy. He was just a regular guy that made a huge contribution. He didn't think about "being responsible for other people's happiness" at all.

Plus, these football players can endow educational opportunities for generations of their families, which is about providing resources to people who otherwise might not be able to get access to those resources. How many generations of family is the question, and how big their contracts are is a determining factor.

Revis is a mercenary that admits to being a mercenary; I can respect that. I'm not about to criticize a guy for chasing the money when it's something that I'd probably do, too.
Exactly. I have zero problems with athletes going for the money (especially in football). Just don't insult my intelligence about it.
