Yes, the Patriots screwed up and ignored the 2007 memo saying that they could only do so from above and not on the sidelines. THAT IS THE ONLY THING THEY DID WRONG. IN 2007!!

When they played the Steelers in 2001 & 2004, it was still OK to tape FROM THE SIDELINES. The Patriots didn't break any rules in 2001 or 2004!!!

In the lead up to SB42, Ron Jaworski was asked about spygate and he responded that he was okay with it. Florio was beside himself and wondered if Jaworski was also "okay" with murder. 13 years later and his opinion hasn't evolved one bit. It's a minor miracle that he correctly saw the sham the league was pulling with the deflated footballs story, since he apparently never stopped to wonder, if the NFL is acting in bad faith/overreacting in this situation, could they have done the same thing in 2007? As holyredeemer mentioned, Cowher, someone who missed out on adding to his legacy/resume due to postseason losses to New England, said it's not a big deal, but that's not enough for Florio. He thinks it's a big deal, so it must be.

It's a minor miracle that he correctly saw the sham the league was pulling with the deflated footballs story, since he apparently never stopped to wonder, if the NFL is acting in bad faith/overreacting in this situation, could they have done the same thing in 2007?

The clarity he had on deflategate relates to the NFL's rape of the science, which he understood, due to the fact that he once was an engineering student (BS degree, IIRC). It was easy to see that somebody was making up crap that simply wasn't true. Spygate had more shades of gray.

Well, he was a lousy engineering student then because a good engineer has to be very good at math. Any person who can do math knows that the years 2001 & 2004 occured before 2007.
