I really liked the Brown pick but my biggest fear was that Texas left a lasting mark on him when that program was a complete mess during his time there. Inmates running the asylum type thing. Just not a good culture.




I find it absolutely amazing college athletes aren't paid. Colleges are empires built off these athletes.

They get a free education. That they don't use it is nobody's fault but their own.

Good news! They are paid. They get tuition, room and board, supplies, etc... At a school like Alabama, that's better than $40k a year, right there.

These schools wouldn't be the powerhouses they are without these kids. Period.

People wouldn't be traveling around the world to go there without everything the athlete brought to that school.

Yep. And those kids get a full ride scholarship. They even have meal plans for free. The have the opportunity to get a degree in a lucrative field absolutely free of charge to provide their long-term security and that of their families. Others have to pay thousands upon thousands of dollars for that and many go into debt taking out student loans to do so. I had to work full time for mine in a call center for four years getting **** on day in and day out and hope that my company didn't shut their tuition reimbursement program down in the process. I would have killed for the opportunity to play a sport I absolutely loved while getting a free education. And, finally, nobody is forcing these kids to play football if they don't like the deal. They're very free to do something else if their family needs the support that badly in the meantime.

None of that is even in the neighborhood of being relevant to the question of whether or not scholarship players are getting paid to play by virtue of their scholarships and accompanying benefits. They are. It's not debatable.

Now, if you want to talk about the idiocy of NCAA work rules for students, that's where you'll be getting somewhere.

The problem with paying players is that the vast majority of athletic departments lose money every year. There are certainly some football and basketball programs that make gobs of money each year but if rules were changed to allow salaries would that be just for the money sports? Would that even fly with title IX regulations? It would certainly widen the gap between the haves and have nots and would likely result in non income generating sports being shut down.
