Very sad and tragic day ... RIP

This tragedy hits home. I hope his family and friends come out of it as well as possible. It's going to be hard.

I see someone who is jumping to conclusions. We don't know why he did what he did. There could've been a multitude of reasons that made him snap and then he took his life after he realized the consequences of his actions. Who knows?

What exactly would justify any of his actions? Please do tell.

Very, very sad.You have issues but u gotta be a bigger man.idk.Its very sad.

Not a justification but here's an early story:

Javon Belcher Murder-Suicide Followed Argument over Trey Songz - FanSided - Sports News - An Independent Sports Network

From the Kansas City Star:
According to a friend of Kasandra Perkins, the woman killed today by Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher, the couple argued in the early morning hours after the woman was out late attending Friday’s Trey Songz concert at The Midland.
The friend, who asked not to be identified, said Belcher confronted Perkins when she returned home about 1 a.m

The NFL is a business. Name the last business you can think of that suspended operations because a coworker was killed. If you can, I'd be honestly surprised.

Update: About 60 workers, family members and friends of victims marched in a somber candlelight vigil Wednesday night across the street from Valley Protein, the central Fresno meat-processing plant where a gunman fatally shot two of his co-workers and wounded two others before killing himself on Tuesday morning.

The plant was closed Wednesday and will reopen Thursday.. Company president Bob Coyle announced the reopening plans after employees and managers met with grief counselors in an employee meeting Wednesday afternoon.

What's the right/wrong way to approach this is certainly debatable but, unless there's an unknown factor here, the league could have moved the game to Monday. That sort of thing has been done before.

Well I'm not saying anything can justify it, and I know NOTHING of the circumstances nor am I suggesting anything, so this is just an example but if it was something along the lines of...

"I've been lying to your dumb ass for months, you aren't worth **** and this baby isn't even yours. It's your best friend's."

Yeah I can see something like that triggering a switch in a very passionate person and there is such a thing as temporary insanity and a crime of passion.

Again, I'm not saying it justifies it. But there are situations that can explain it.

So all this might have been over a damn concert?

And who said anything about justifying his actions? Please do tell.

Maybe, just maybe, he had brain damage. It's speculation but you should recognize your post was over the top given the limited facts we know.

To be fair, though, a meat-packing plant doesn't have thousands of fans traveling in from out of town for an event less than 24 hours away.

This whole situation is terrible, and there's nothing the NFL can do to change that fact. (BTW, by the accounts I've read they did consult with Romeo in making the decision to play as planned.)

The Chiefs may have been asked if they wanted to postpone and they said no, we don't know all the specifics.

Edit: patchick ninja'd me - I guess they did have specifics

What about the girlfriend who lost her life in this?

Of course I feel for the girlfriend and her family. I didn't think I needed to make that clear from the get go when I mentioned the baby (which should have led to the train of thought that I felt most for it because it will now grow up without its natural parents). Here is who I feel most for, in order...

1. The child.

2. The girlfriend.

3. Her mother.

4. Belcher's family.

5. RAC and Pioli.

6. Belcher.

I am sure Pioli and Romeo wont even have their heads on the game tomorrow. Its a meaningful game.I wish they wouldnt play it.

Hm, I AM surprised.

Patchick does make a better point than my own about the thousands of fans that would be affected.

The first few months of parenthood are incredibly difficult. I have personally been through hell, and almost everyone I know has stared down the edge of sanity. Although many are more shocked about this because of the 2-month old, it actually seems more likely.

Although their are resources out there for people struggling with the very early stages of parenthood, nothing can really prepare you for the ensuing emotional roller-coaster. Many people think that the struggles end as the pregnancy ends, but it is just beginning. It usually starts getting much better 3-6 months after birth, but tragically in this case, they didn't make it.

They went on and played after Sean Taylor was shot and killed. Whilst there were members of the team who witnessed his suicide, I'd have been surprised if the NFL had rearranged anything.

9/11 was a big exception and it was league wide so, logistically, they were able to incorporate it in to the season...it'd be tough to rearrange one fixture with no bye weeks remaining.

Neither team is making the playoffs. They could postpone it to Monday night and make it a doubleheader if they really wanted to.

That said, I believe that Sean Taylor's death happened on the Redskins' off day, almost a week before the game, not the day before, so it's not exactly comparable.

Hey, in that article, they report that grief counselors were going to be available the next day.
Yeah, to counsel the employees on how to live with the harsh reality that they're workers at a freaking meat packing plant. ehh haaa haa

Absolutely nothing justifies the action of taking another person's life, and I don't recall reading anything on this thread suggesting a "justification" or what happened. But the circumstances can certainly be relevant to why it happened, and the degree of condemnation. It's been suggested that Belcher was "diabolical", "cowardly", "selfish" and even without a soul, but also depressed, possibly suffering from encephalopathy, stressed, etc. We don't know, and I'm not interested in speculation. Regardless of the reasons, the kid did something inexcusable, and paid with his life. A lot of people's lives have been shattered by what happened.
