Do the WR moves by the Jests and Dolfiends increase the need for CBs? Probably not; just a thought but obviously the Patriots either have to improve their pass rush or defensive backfield.

IMO Bodden, Butler, Springs, Merriweather, Sanders, Chung make up a pretty good, if not spectacular defensive backfield. I think the Patriots can make it that much better by improving the front seven.

Springs needs to go,his time has come, time for new blood

I think it does matter, yes. Although we are aiming to bring home a Lombardi trophy and therefore need to be good enough to beat everyone, we need to beat our division first. So yeah, tailor your personnel to improve your matchups against the best players on your division rivals.

Certainly it proves the need for Butler to bulk up, and I remember reading in the last couple of days that this has been the primary focus of his off-season so far. The signing of Marshall should hopefully focus some minds amongst the lightweights in our defensive backfield.

Without a doubt, a CB will be brought in at some point in the draft, but not as a direct consequence of the Holmes and Marshall deals, and not for lack of confidence in the projected starters.

The nickel back play in 2009 was terrible, be it Wheatley, Wilhite or Springs. With so many teams running 3 and 4 WR sets now, I think you really need 3 good corners. Somebody needs to come in and solidify that position.

This may have been a factor in the choice of McCourty.

My binky was Joe Haden but he went earlier than projected (as usual for CBs) but McCourty should help a lot and he will help the pass rush because may free up a safety to blitz.

I don't necessarily think so, seems to go against what Belichick does to alter a team's draft strategy last minute in response to moves made by rivals.

But I do feel much better to finally have, potentially, a solid physical corner who might actually make a WR pay for the catch. Feels like a long time since we've had that.

Yup. You must mean Ty Law. I hope he has the same hands as Law but I sort of doubt it; maybe some quality time on the juggs machine. Still he can run like a deer and hit like a cement truck.
