Anyone got how many times they used a fullback, and how many times it was Brown? Seems a bit of a nice tool in the box with his versatility blocking and catching. Surprising athleticism for a guy considered a jag.
I counted 5, all Brown. Three times in the first quarter (12:08, 7:05, 1:57), but then none in the 2nd, once in the 3rd (13:27), and once in the 4th (12:57).

Boutte has always ran good routes, back to his time at LSU. As a pro, he just needs to work on his balance, and getting both feet in. I think Douglas needs to learn on the fly. His routes are not as crisp as they should be, so you shouldn’t see hard-breaking cuts for a little bit, but he’s got too much speed to be sitting on the sideline. A legitimate perimeter threat would completely open this offense up and give it the gear it needs.

Agree with all of that. Thornton is supposed to be our perimeter guy. We will see soon. How long will Boutte sit for not getting two feet inbounds? Douglas is fun but might be a bit frustrating.

I am not a #1 WR guy, but I am coming around to it. We have lots of pieces, a #1 piece would help. Brown was great against the Jets but I would like to see a true #1 LT too. Hopefully soon.

^^ This looks like it might be as much on Pop as it is the OL. That route should have been more shallow to help out Mac.

@p8ryts that route was run way too deep. He needs to cut at 10 yards.

If Pop cuts out after getting behind the middle defender, at 10 to 15 yards, it is an easier throw because Mac does not have to go over the defender and can throw it earlier. Also allows Pop to catch and run.

Don't know if you noticed but Pop fell down backwards on a few of Mac's throws. Sure sign the timing is off. Boutte on the other hand commonly catches balls in stride as he runs correct crisp routes.

Yup. It’s one of the plays that Bill would cite if you trapped him in a room and told him he couldn’t leave until he explains why Pop doesn’t get more playing time. It’s a rookie mistake in an offense that isn’t easy to learn. He’ll get there.

Let's hope he gets there. Not convinced because some never get there.

What amazes me is that Patriots beat guys don't see simple things like that and understand why Pop's minutes are limited. Not hard to see and understand, but the beat guys all complain when Pop's minutes are limited.

I really hope Boutte gets it. Great slasher and YAC guy. Not sure why he can't catch balls on the sideline with his hands like he does on his slants.

PS Pop could be like Parker, always dinged up and never completely getting it. Getting boxed out for the interception in the Mismi game is inexcusable. At $5M a year Parker is a good depth piece, but another guy that has amazing talent but still makes stupid plays after 6+ years in the league. Smart enough to know to take the $5+M per year from BB because he might not get another offer.

Because they‘re ignorant and/or lazy?

play bourne on the outside, we need the youngsters in the middle instead, choose your fav dissapointment of a WR for the other side (or if I get my way, put 3 TEs on the field)
