Celtics 2025-2026 Discussion

Celtics betting odds plummeted it’s been pretty close between them and Miami now it is Miami 60% Celtics like 20%. I’m guessing this has to do with a couple of things. First, it’s reported that Milwaukee is scouting the number 13 pick which they would get from Miami. Second, the reports that the Celtics are peeved that they are being discussed assuming they’re mad because they don’t want to alienate Brown.

Looking at Miami’s package, I think this is just a bad trade for Milwaukee. This would be one of the lowest returns in memory for a player of this caliber. Not even a high draft pick, and a bunch of players along with Herro, who is a good player, but not anything spectacular.

So maybe it is just the best that Milwaukee can do right now but it seems they have totally mistimed the trade market. Their general manager has to be thinking he’s going to get run out of town if Giannis puts up an MVP type season and Milwaukee has basically nothing to show for it. It’s been clear for several years that Giannis wants out if they’re not going to contend, and to trade him at the absolute low point in terms of the return is kind of inexcusable.

I donno - looks to me like they are swapping Giannis' 30 points a game for younger players who account for 50 points a game, plus this year's #13 pick and a future #1 if they take the rumored deal from Miami

I know a bunch of guys scoring 15-20 points each don't fully replace what one person in Giannis can do on the floor, but that's not a bad haul.

The best the Celtics should offer (IMO) is Brown and this year's #27 for Giannis - then let the Bucks flip Brown for more picks or players.

Which begs the question - what is Jaylen Brown worth in trade? I would say he's worth 2 first rounders easy - and more to a team that's on the cusp of contending. i.e. I would be willing to throw our #27 into a trade for Giannis who only commands more than JB because he's a dominant center (not to mention MVP winner but you've got to factor how many games he and Brown have played in the last season)

Both JB and Giannis are around the same age - and yes, Giannis is about the same age as when we traded for Kevin Garnett so we've been down this road before - though we know there's more health risks with Giannis.

But if the Bucks can get two first round picks and all those players from Miami to flip or play, I'd take it if I were them, especially since this year's draft pick from Miami is #13. For the Bucks they also don't have to involve a 3rd team as they would with Brown to flip him for players and picks.

I think the Cs want this to happen, but I get the feeling it won't, and that might still be for the best for the Cs is the $27 mil trade exemption for a 15 point 8+ rebound guy who can be a presence at C, while keeping JB and having the option of going shopping for a C the following season.

Yeah, it’s really not the same thing at all. I mean you could get five subpar players that will average a total of over 40 points a game, but it doesn’t matter because there’s only one ball and five guys on the court at once.

Usually, I just look at who is the best player in the trade, or who is likely to be the best player given draft picks are lotto tickets, granted having some pretty good young developing players makes it a little bit better for the box but in basketball it’s really about the ceiling player. Tyler Herro is like the minimum level to make this trade, even somewhat respectable..

More than two first round picks, I agree.

Yeah, but one of the first round picks we already know is number 13 overall which is not that great. And if they get Giannis, it’s not likely that the other one’s gonna be very high either. Bridges got like five or six first round picks from the Knicks with the idea of being that they would be drafting lower since their team will be very competitive.

The odds markets have essentially tanked the Celtics now and it looks like this is a done deal, but who knows with Brad Stevens.

I’m really not a big fan of Giannis to the Celtics. I actually don’t think this makes them a championship lock nor do I think they are better than the Knicks with Tatum and Giannis and a lot of other holes. That said, I feel like we kind of know where the Tatum Brown duo gets us which is a competitive team, but still within the pack. So getting Giannis wouldn’t be crazy because there’s a reasonable chance that maybe it would make them spectacular. Just don’t know until we see it.
